Our courses will equip you with such skills and more.

Course aims

The HN part-time courses have a strong practical emphasis with a focus on the technical and personal skills required for a career in computing industry as Trainee Programmers, Software Engineers, Web Developers or Junior Database Administrators.

We aim to facilitate your personal development by building a range of specialist technical software development skills and knowledge in programming and systems development. Further skills are provided in the areas of server-client databases, networks and web/e-commerce solutions. You will be up-to-date with the ever-changing world of programming and on completion you will be able to analyze, design, develop and implement a wide range of programming solutions. Fundamental principles and theory are also covered so that students can keep up to date with and understand future developments in computing.

Course structure

All courses consist of units called ‘modules', which allow you to study topicsthat may be of particular interest to you. Review the Pathway Maps provided further in this document.

Modules are generally organized as a series of lectures and practicals to cover theory, worked examples, case study work and model solutions. You will be assessed on each module you study throughout the semester or year. This includes course work, presentations, exams, tests and practical assignments – you may be required to design and develop solutions to problems that could face today's organisations.

We provide you with the necessary resources to help you in your module studies and endeavor to provide quality feedback through all stages of your development.

You will benefit from the highly-advanced learning environment in our impressive new buildings and computing facilities.
