This position provides support to the entire Public Affairs team, with primary responsibility for monitoring media for issues relating to IIROC and other Canadian regulators, as well as identifying and communicating emerging issues and opportunities internally. The Specialist also manages the distribution of all news releases including a high volume of Enforcement-related releases, as well as corporate and policy announcements. This position assists with the creation of corporate communications materials including the Annual Report, brochures and IIROC web sites.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with and coordinate the strategic distribution of all IIROC press releases and other communications materials
  • Review Enforcement related releases and escalate issues/ concerns to Media Manager
  • Manage and coordinate timely distribution of news releases using Canada NewsWire (CNW) and IIROC targeted media distribution lists
  • Develop and maintain strategic and targeted national and regional media lists
  • Work closely with Web Specialist, Notice Administrator and CSA (when initiatives must be coordinated) to ensure regulatory timelines are met and distribution through CNW and posting on web sites are coordinated
  • Monitor media (print, broadcast and electronic) domestically and internationally tracking stories about IIROC, other regulatory bodies, capital market and financial services trends, and circulate media clippings in a timely and relevant manner to senior management and Board
  • Track commentary about IIROC and correct, escalate and/or recommend timely and appropriate responses when coverage is inaccurate and/or unbalanced
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive and searchable issues tracking files and stakeholder positions
  • Assist with fact gathering and distribution of corporate reports, brochures and other materials to a wide range of stakeholders nationally and regionally
  • Provide support in developing media analysis for internal purposes
Education/Experience:
  • University degree
  • Minimum of 2 years in a media relations/public affairs environment
  • Experience in media monitoring/distribution and issues management
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with changing priorities
