Holiday Ornament
1. Start with square piece of paper
2. How many lines of symmetry of the square can you find? (4) Crease along each line of symmetry (CREASE WELL J Bend both ways.) What shapes did you make? (triangles, rectangles, squares)
3. Fold your square along a diagonal. What do you have? What kind of a triangle do you have? (isosceles, right) How do you know?
4. Hold the folded edge in your hand. Take one of the loose points (corner opposite from the diagonal) and fold so that the edge of your triangle meets the fold/diagonal. What shapes do you see? (ice cream cone, …)
5. Repeat step 5 with each corner of the square (total of 8 folds of this kind. How many folds/lines are coming out of each corner of the square? (3) Decorate by tracing lines in colors. Add other decoration as you like. Be creative.
6. Look at your square: What kind of shapes do you see? Octagon, Triangles - how many? Quadrilaterals – how many? Kite/deltoid? What kinds of angles can you find? (900, obtuse, acute) Shapes? Pentagon (irregular), …

8. Push a little bit at the middle of edges of your square to get a star shape. Push further to connect corners/vertices. Your octagon should pop-out (star-like)
