Purpose / This theory-based unit standard is for people who work in the motor industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of motor vehicle bumpers.

3Definitions
Heavy vehicle refers to a motor vehicle that is of Class MD3, MD4, ME, NB, NC, TC or TD; or has a gross vehicle mass that exceeds 3500 kg and is not of a class specified in the Table of vehicle classes as listed from Land Transport New Zealand website
Light vehicle refers to classes as listed from Land Transport New Zealand website table passenger vehicle MA, MB, MC; omnibus MD, MD1, MD2; and goods vehicle NA.

Evidence requirements
1.1Types of bumpers are identified in accordance with vehicle manufacturer specifications.

1.2Components that make up the bumper and method of attachment are identified in accordance with vehicle manufacturer specifications.
Rangeincludes but is not limited to – cover; brackets; bolts; reinforcing; frame; lamps; energy absorber; sensors incorporated within the bumper – air bag, collision avoidance, reversing and/or parking assist.
1.3Functions of bumper components are identified in accordance with vehicle manufacturer specifications.
1.4Methods of attachment to a vehicle are described in accordance with vehicle manufacturer specifications.

1.5Methods of repairing bumpers are described in accordance with manufacturer specifications and legislative requirements.

1.6Safe working practices when repairing bumpers are described in accordance with legislative requirements.
