SIT Minutes
I.Welcome
II.Direction 1: Safe and Supportive Learning Environment
a.Safety/Discipline Checklist-Mr. Garcia reviewed Campus Safety Observation audit conducted by Ms. Crosse. Results were positive except for locking portable doors.
b.Trash in playground-Concern about students helping picking up trash in the playground without gloves. Campus will purchase trash grabber tools so that students can continue helping keep our school clean.
c.School Improvement Issues-Principal discussed reviewing Goal 1-Safe School Environment-Reading P. 23-27 (Homework for SIT members to read and review)
d.Early Release-Students will report to 3rd period breakfast for 15 minutes then report to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th.
e.Wednesday, Sept. 28th-Dads and Donuts-Informational Text Activity with all dads and then opportunity to practice with child in the classroom. (Book Mark-Five W’s with informational text)
III.Direction 2: College and Career Readiness
- PSAT September 28-Ms. Aldana gave update on PSAT to be administered this Wednesday in the gym.
IV.Direction 3: Highly Qualified, Effective Faculty and Staff
- Intersession Plan-Reviewed Intersession plans and lesson plan format, minimum of ten students per teacher.
- GT Update-Ron Clark book study, register in the staff development website.
V.Direction 4: Home, School, Community Partnerships
- Parent Teacher Student Compact as per Title 1-Ms. Zais discussed school parent compact and reviewed sample brochure format from Montwood High. Possibility to create a similar brochure for John Drugan to pass out to our parents.
b.Bench donated from Home Depot-Anti-Bullying
VI.Direction 5: Accountability for All
- Goal 1 Review pages 23-28
- PLC’s Planning Time-Discussed teacher concerns about starting TEKS Academies earlier to cover PLC’s so that teachers do not stay after regular school hours to finish the items from the checklist.
- Voted on monthly PLCs or cover PLCs during TEKS academy days. Motion is to begin TEKS Academies at 7:30 am and have the PLC’s during TEKS Academies.
- Budget-Reviewed budget report. (A large portion of money is being utilized for paper and ink for copiers).

VIII.Open Forum
- Uniform Policy-Joggers are allowed, no slides, headbands are allowed, but if they are a distraction in the classroom teachers can band them.
- Technology Resources (United Streaming, Brain Pop,
Treasures on-line)
Unites Streaming has been purchased for the campus.
Brain Pop-Most of the campus is not using it.

Mice for computers have been set up in the computer lab.
- Copies Concern-Mr. Garcia addressed teacher concerns about Riso not working or having ink. Mentioned that a new ink cartridge for the Riso finished from one day to the next. Teachers currently have 700 copies and 400 print jobs available to them each month.
Grade levels concerned about Riso machine not having ink and not available for teachers to run their copies. Riso copier will now be placed in the office and we will have a designated person run copies for teachers (minimum of 50 copies per job).
Teachers will be allotted 1000 copies and 100 print jobs.
SPED Dept. will keep the same number of copies as before.
d.J-Drive-Teachers need to clean up outdated information from J-Drive. J-Drive will be cleaned up over the Intersession.
e.Student diversity was addressed-All students regardless of race, color, religion are welcome at our school. Be intentional about topics that are discussed in class, be open to the diversity of our population, keep your personal believes to yourself. Do not make any negative comments or inappropriate remarks. Do not project your views onto our students.

*Holly Fields will send a teacher survey about professional development.
*Budget-District budget was discussed. A teacher brought up concern about getting the district to pay for instructional Apps that teachers are using in the classroom.
*School Improvement Issues-If school has major issues on school improvement, need to contact Mr. Eyeington. *Concerns about substitutes, not enough substitutes.
*Cafeteria food-Outrageous prices for teachers,need to meet smart snack compliance, concern with portion size.
*Parent raised concern that students are required to have their school ID if not they will not be served a lunch plate.
