2016-17 Basketball Parent Meeting Info Letter
Hello, and welcome to KCMS Lady Eagle basketball! It is a long season, but sure to bring thrills (did you see that shot??!!) and chills (brrr…winter temps). Get your Eagle Pride on and get ready for some fun!
You have been provided with a copy of the KCMS and NCHS Lady Eagle basketball schedules. We encourage the girls to attend as many high school games as they can, both to learn the game and to cheer for the HS players, so please pick a few of the exciting match-ups and put them on your calendar.
You have also been given a copy of our KCMS Lady Eagles Athletic Program Guidelines, which contains the answers to most questions you would have over the year, and outlines our expectations.

Common Questions:
WHEN ARE PRACTICE TIMES AND WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ATHLETES IS LATE OR MISSES PRACTICE?
Practices are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Arrival time is 6:45am through the outside locker room door.
At 7:05am, the door will be locked and the athlete will have to wait until the school opens at 7:45am, if they are arriving after the door is locked. 7th graders would join their grade level in the hallway, and wait for their Athletic period to join their team, and 8th graders would join their team in the gym.
All missed practices, no matter the reason, will require a make-up practice workout, which must be completed to be eligible to play in the next game. Excessive absences may result in removal from the team.
Please communicate as soon as possible with your coach via email if you are going to absent.
Thursdays are game day- no early practices. Absence make-up workouts start at 7:45am on Thursdays.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE?
The only major equipment that families would have to purchase is basketball shoes, and a basketball to practice at home, if possible. Ankle braces and knee pads are optional, but recommended, to protect the athlete’s joints. Also, proper athletic undergarments need to be worn and many athletes prefer to wear spandex shorts under their uniforms.
The athletes will be provided with their game uniforms- a reversible jersey and shorts. These will be the responsibility of the athlete for the duration of the season. This means that they are responsible for the cleaning of the uniform and bringing it on every game day (and picture day). The athletes will also be provided with a bag, travel shirt, a set of sweats (hoodie and pants). We also have a very limited supply of previously used slide sandals and basketball shoes. While any issued items are the responsibility of the athlete for the season, the items are the property of the school district, and as such, if an item is damaged or lost, the item must be paid for.
WHAT DO THE PLAYERS WEAR ON GAME DAY?
The athlete is required to wear their travel shirt, jeans and regular shoes (no slides) during the school day on game days. We will also wear this attire to Caney Crazy Pep Rally, Middle School Night at NCHS and our College Game outing.
DO I HAVE TO GET FOOD FOR MY ATHLETES ON GAME DAYS?
For home games, the athletes will not be provided food, so they will either need to bring a sack lunch or parents can drop off food at the front office no later than 3:30pm. Please keep in mind that the meals need to be healthy, with no fried food such as chicken strips or fries, and no sodas or other sugary drinks. The athletes will be running a lot during the game, and these types of foods do not sit well, and will slow the athlete down. For away games, we will be feeding the athletes prior to the game. The meals will be usually a sandwich box-type meal from Firehouse Subs, or similar.
MAY MY ATHLETE HAVE HER CELL PHONE AT GAMES?
Yes, but if an athlete is seen with the phone out in the stands, or if cell phones become an issue in any way, the athlete will have consequences for not following the rules of the program. Phones will stay locked up on home games in the Athlete’s locker. Cell phones can become a major distraction on game days, and so they need to stay put away. We will give the athletes plenty of time to contact parents on away games, and on home games you can expect to pick up you athlete at 8pm. Hopefully you are at the game anyways!!
MY ATHLETE IS ON THE B TEAM. MAY MY ATHLETE LEAVE AFTER SHE IS DONE PLAYING?
NO, athletes must stay for the game after theirs, unless there is a true family emergency, and this must be discussed with her coach prior to leaving. It is important that all athletes stay to cheer for the other team, to learn from the play in the other game, and assist in the breakdown of the gyms for home games.
MAY I TAKE MY ATHLETE HOME WITH ME AFTER AN AWAY GAME OR TOURNAMENT?
After away games, athletes may not ride from the other school location with their parents, another player’s parents or family unless they turned in a signed NCISD Alternate Transportation Consent from stating that this is permitted. Forms must be turned into Coach Templeton 2 days prior to the game, so Tuesdays for Thursday games. If the paperwork has been submitted, all athletes must still check out with their team coach before they are allowed to leave an away-game location any way but on the bus.
For games that are played inside NCISD, parents will pick up their athlete from that location. This only applies to our game at WFMS and NCMS.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS AFTER A GAME?
Coaches will not discuss game-related issues and concerns post-game, but we will gladly set up a conference with you if you so desire. Coaches are not allowed to discuss any other athletes with a parent besides their own, and we will not discuss playing time, as this is discussing other athletes. We will give coaching points on how the specific athlete can improve their game, and this may (but not always) affect playing time.
The best way to communicate with any coach is by email.
WHAT SHOULD MY ATHLETE DO IF THEY FEEL THEY ARE INJURED?
All injuries should be reported to the athlete’s team coach immediately, and if needed, the athlete will be sent to Coach Pace, our on-campus Athletic Trainer. If the injury warrants more aggressive treatment, such as trip to a Sports Medicine specialist, the athletic trainer will make that recommendation. The athletes are always encouraged to speak with the Athletic Trainer before scheduling a Dr.’s appointment.
