PUBLIC WORKS MONTHLY REPORT

November 19, 2015 - January 19, 2016

SANITATION DIVISION (FTEs – 8)

Residential Service –Twocarts wererepaired and threecarts were replaced. Fourcarts were removedfrom houses that were being moved or demolished. Sanitation supervisor responded to one call regarding ordinance enforcement; thirteencalls regarding late put outs and/or questions about bulk/yard debris pick up, ninecalls concerning winter roll-out service and billing questions, two callsconcerning electronic waste disposal, onecomplaint, and thirteenmiscellaneous calls.

Commercial Service – Service routes continue to be updated based on business needs. Fouraccounts required extra pick-ups due to overflow. Supervisor explained sanitation/dumpster services to fivenew businesses/owners: Sandbery & Assoc., St. Somewhere Gifts & Accessories, Defiant Motor Sports, Richard’s Mobile RV Service and 1st Advantage Health. Supervisor responded to two complaintsand one miscellaneous call. Two businesses cancelled winter service.

Yard & Bulk Item Debris –Bulk items are picked up every Monday throughout town. Yard debris is picked up Tuesday through Friday as scheduled. Items/debris must be curbside by 6:00am on the scheduled collection day. Reminder: Per Ordinance – leaves must be bagged; limbs can be no longer than four feet in length.

Electronic Waste – A reminder that we are no longer able to pick up old televisions or computers.

These can be dropped off for recycling at the Horry County Recycling Center at 9630 Scipio Lane.

Recycling News – Fourteencartshave been delivered per owner requests. Fivecarts have been removed. Supervisor responded to three miscellaneous calls about recycling. Additional 65G recycle carts are being distributed in the R3/C3 district as time permits.

In October we collected 324.25tons of solid waste, 34.83tons of mixed debris, 150.52tons of yard debris, and 44.89tons of recyclables.

STREETS & DRAINAGE DIVISION (FTEs –9)

The Beach – Crews continue to perform maintenance and/or repairs to beach trash/recycle can holders. Several recycle cans have been replaced.

Street Division crews have completed re-building the 11th Ave South dune walkover, and are currently re-building the 4th Ave North walkover. These new 12x12 foot decks have more area for seating and passage than the older style walkovers. We anticipate completing one additional walkover this winter.

On-going/Special Projects:

  • Crews continue to repair sink holes throughout town.
  • Clean-up and maintenance work continues on Town ditches and Right-of-Ways.
  • Repairs and renovations continue on beach accesses as needed..
  • Mowing of town properties, right-of-ways, and highways is being done as scheduled.
  • Street sweeping is being done on Wednesdays and Fridays, weather permitting.
  • 2015 Street Paving was completed in December (3.5 miles).
  • Crews are completing several small drainage projects during the month of January.
  • Fivereports were sent to Santee Cooper identifying street lights that were not working.
  • From November 19 through January 19Public Works assistant answered 359incoming calls.

127 of those calls dealt with sanitation questions/concerns;42calls dealt with street related issue – street/drainage issues, streetlights, and questions about encroachment permits/driveway inspections; 10calls dealt with parks/grounds issues; 110were internal calls dealing with department and/or personnel issues and/or questions; 16calls were received for the Public Works Director; 47calls dealt with vendors, miscellaneous questions, wrong departments and/or telemarketers; 7 calls were received for Facilities concerning orders on parts.

GROUNDS DIVISION (FTEs-5)

  • Crew removed and stored the town’s Christmas decorations.
  • Repairs and maintenance are being performed at public restrooms on town properties.
  • Parks and other Town properties are being cleaned, mowed, mulched, including shrub trimming.
  • The new skate park fence has been installed.
  • Roses from the Surfside Drive curb and gutter construction have been transplanted at the Police Department.

FLEET MAINTENANCE DIVISION(FTE-2)

FromNovember 19, 2015 – January 19, 2016,our mechanics completed seventy-one (71) repairs on Town vehicles and equipment. Four (4) vehicles had flats repaired and five (5) vehicle needed tires. Bi-weekly fleet tires checks were completed on all Public Works vehicles and/or equipment. “Preventive” and “Scheduled” maintenance (consisting of lube, oil & filter changes, brake inspections, tire rotations and fluid checks) were performed on thirty (30) Town vehicles and/or equipment.

FACILITIES DIVISION (FTE-2)

  • Repairs and maintenance were done to the Dick Johnson Building.
  • Building and plumbing repairs were made to town properties as needed.
  • Cleaning and maintenance are performed at all Town properties as scheduled.
