Knitting Café

Overview

The Knitting Café combines two relaxing activities: knitting and enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. The retail area of the shop stocks yarn, embroidery thread, books, patterns, kits, accessories, and supplies for all knitters ranging from the beginner to the master knitter. The café area serves equal-trade coffee, tea, and hot chocolate with bakery made fresh every day. Weekly knitting classes take place in the retail area.

The Knitting Café has been profitable since its opening a year ago. Its success stems directly from its four objectives:

To offer a welcoming, comfortable place for people interested in knitting.

To provide excellent customer service and foster camaraderie among customers and staff.

To stock a larger variety of knitting and crocheting supplies than any other shop in the area.

To serve our customers with respect and delight.

Retail Highlights

Macintosh yarns

The Knitting Café features high-quality Macintosh yarns spun in nearby Vermont. As woolen spun yarns, the fibers in Macintosh yarns retain a loft that traps air and stays lightweight. Macintosh yarns have two plies that are twisted to create strength and warmth. A spinner made the following recommendation:

Macintosh yarns are ideal for sweaters, winter accessories, and blankets using cable, ribbing, open-work, and textured designs.

Chartres yarns

The Knitting Café is the only retailer in New England that sells Chartres yarns. These yarns are lighter and more delicate than Macintosh yarns, suitable for details that involve lace and other intricate open work. Like Macintosh yarns, Chartres yarns have two plies that are tightly twisted to create a smooth, silky texture.

Notable accessories and supplies

We stock everything a knitter needs from the common to the unusual and even unique. One of our customers said it best:

The Knitting Café has more cool stuff for knitters than you could ever imagine.
