PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AS PHYSICIAN AT OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTRE

Currently I manage the Center for continuing education (CCED) medical centre of the OlabisiOnabanjo University.

It is located within the CCED campus which is close to the town. The students and staff have easy access to this center, since they reside off campus.The centre also serves the Ago Iwoye community.

As the principal medical officer in charge of the CCED health centre, I perform the following duties:

  • Coordinate the activities of all the various department of the center.
  • Conduct hospital rounds every day of the week and ensure proper cleanliness is maintained in the centre.
  • Does quality assessment of services provided at the health centre.
  • Supervision of record keeping of activities at the health centre.
  • Involved in yearly budgeting and planning for health services directorate.
  • Present seminars and workshops.
  • Write a monthly report to the overall medical director of health services.
  • Act for the director of health services occasionally when he’s on leave.

CLINICAL DUTIES

  • Pre-employment and pre admission medical history taking and physical examination of new staff and students with the aim of certifying the student and staff physically and mentally fit for employment and admission, identification of high risk students and treatment of contagious diseases prior to admission into the university.
  • Provision of Preventive Medical Services to University Staff Families through Health Education & Immunization (where possible and available) Program for communicable diseases like hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and under 5Years killer disease.
  • Provision of voluntary counseling and testing services on HIV/AIDS for staffs and students.
  • Coordination and provision of reproductive health services e.g family-planning/ contraceptive, antenatal/post-natal, sexually transmitted infections screening services to staffs and students in the university.
  • Medical managementof ailments: both communicable and non-communicable diseases e.g. Malaria, typhoid, pneumonia and other respiratory diseases, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, sexually transmitted infection, road traffic accident. This includes history taking, clinical examination, ordering investigation, and writing out prescription and admissions procedures when necessary. Review of patient on the wards from time to time until patient is fit for discharge.
  • Provision of maternal &child health care services.
  • Attend to emergencies.
  • Issue sick leave, maternity leave certificate.
  • Write medical report when necessary.
  • Perform minor surgical procedure such as suturing of laceration.

WORK EXPERIENCE AS RESIDENT DOCTOR

As a resident doctor during the clinical attachment earlier mentioned, I ran the following clinic doing specified jobs as described below;

  • Established the HIV Counseling and testing Unit in OOU Ago Iwoye in 2009.
  • Personally organized and conducted screening program for cervical cancer prevention for the women in Ago Iwoye in 2008.
