The Safety and Security Award recognizes transit organizations for their commitment to enhancing the safety and security of transit employees and/or customers through the development and implementation of effective safety and/or security programs. These initiatives may include programs that create and sustain a culture of safety within the workplace and result in exceptional service and security for the public.

Reason for Nomination

Provide details of the program achievements under the topics by answering the questions as listed in the appropriate fields.

1. Background and objectives -Maximum 150 words

Describe the safety and security issues which led to the development of the achievement. Is it a new concept or a variation of an existing idea? Was it developed independently or in cooperation with others? Does it answer a strategic theme of CUTA’s Transit Vision 2040? (For more information, please see the Awards Nomination Guidelines).

2. Communication, Creative and Execution – Maximum 200 words

Does the achievement reflect a new and unusual approach to the problem? How does it differ from traditional approaches to the problem? How were the objectives and the steps inside the organization communicated? What other resources were used to promote this achievement (law enforcement, volunteers, online resources etc)? Describe the process/methods used to engage others. How was the achievement implemented? Were there any barriers encountered during the implementation and how were they overcome? Will it lead to making a difference in the workplace? Can it be transferable to other organizations?

3. Evaluation and Results – Maximum 150 words

How do direct savings compare to the program/project costs? What indirect or non-financial benefits were achieved? Is there before/after data that supports the efficacy of the achievement? Are there any statistics indicating the economic benefit of the safety and security improvements? What would be the impact of this achievement on the organization and the transit industry in general?
