St. Thomas Volunteer Opportunities

Spring 2017

The following is a list of volunteer credit opportunities for the Spring 2017. Note, there are several opportunities for evening volunteers and work from home.

  • Please review and check off the volunteer opportunities you are interested in working to fulfill your hours. Event chairs will be in touch with you to confirm your interest.
  • Note, there are activities that may need a chairperson or co-chair. As a chairperson, all of your volunteer hours will be fulfilled. If you are interested in chairing or co-chairing an event, please check the appropriate line, where applicable.
  • Volunteer hours will be tracked via Family Sign-In sheets in the Volunteer Binder.
  • Please review fill out the form to reflect your interest and submit to the office in an envelope marked “Volunteer Opportunities”.

NOTE: All volunteers must be VIRTUS trained. VIRTUS training opportunities at St. Thomas are available on October 1. Additional dates to be added.

____ / Catholic Schools Week Hospitality, 1/29 / -Volunteers are needed for hospitality at the St. Thomas Open House on Sunday morning, 1/29: Coffee and refreshments need to be set-up prior to 10:30am mass, and be around to help new families navigate where they should be.
_____ / Student Appreciation Day Lunch, 2/1 / Volunteers are needed to help serve special pizza lunch to all the children in the school, 11:30am-12:30pm. Approximately 2 volunteer credit hours can be earned if you’re able to come earlier for set-up.

_____Volunteer / Lunch/Recess Help: Teacher Appreciation Day Luncheon, 2/2
Festival of the Arts, 2/2 / Volunteers (8-10 total) are needed for lunch and recess duty in order for Teachers and Staff to enjoy lunch to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day. 11:20am-12:30pm.
-Co-Chair needed to help plan event and assist Art Teacher.
-Volunteer assistance is needed to help prepare refreshments and set-up. Evening help, approximately 5pm-8pm depending on availability. 2-3 volunteer credit hours can be earned.

____3/27 Evening / Book Fair,
3/23 and 3/27 / The Book Fair will take place on Thursday, 3/23 day and evening; and Monday evening, 3/27.
-Volunteers are needed to help set-up the book displays as well as work shifts during the Book Fair to help the children shop during the school day.
-Volunteers are needed Thursday evening, 3/23, during Parent Teacher Conferences.
-Volunteers are needed Monday evening, 3/27, during Parent Teacher conferences.
Opportunity to earn several volunteer credit hours depending on your schedule.
____ / Mother Son Dance, 4/2 / Volunteers are needed. Basket solicitations, basket assembly prior to event can be done per your schedule; the night of the event, volunteers are needed to help check-in and sell raffle tickets. Opportunity to earn several volunteer credit hours.
____5/11 Flower Delivery
____5/12 Day-Kids Shop / Flower Sale,
5/11 and 5/12 / -Volunteers are needed on 5/11 to help unload the delivery truck and wrap flowers for children to purchase the following day approximately 8am-12noon;
-Volunteers are needed to for shifts on 5/12 to help children shop for flowers for their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, etc…

5/19 / -Volunteer help is needed to help run games and prepare and serve lunch to the students. Help is needed all day and/or per your schedule—but especially during lunch.

5/20 / Volunteers are needed for shopping for the event, set-up morning of, and check-in and 50/50 sales. Opportunity to earn several volunteer credit hours on a night out!

____Upper School Dance Chaperones: Volunteers are needed to chaperone the dances from 7pm-10pm. This is a great way to earn 3 volunteer credit hours, especially for working parents. All parents are welcome to chaperone—not just those with children in the Upper School.

____Valentine’s Dance, Friday 2/10____Spring Fling, Friday 5/12

____Parking Lot Mornings: Assist in directing bus and drop-off traffic for approx. 30 minutes in the morning.

____Lunch Duty: Assist teachers and aides in the lunchroom and at recess. Lunch is from 11:35am-12:35pm.

____Special Lunches: Pizza, Bagel, and Taco special lunch days need help in order to prepare and serve these lunches to the children.

____Pizza volunteers are needed every Friday from 10/7-5/12 from 11:00am-12:30pm. Any time is appreciated.

____Bagels are prepared the mornings of bagel lunch days. Bagel lunches are the 3rd Wednesdays of every month from beginning 10/19-5/17. Help is needed from approximately 9am-10:30am.

____Taco lunches are prepared the mornings of taco lunch days. Taco lunches are the 2nd Wednesdays of every month beginning 10/12-5/10. Help is needed from approximately 10am-11:30am.

____Give Back Fundraising: Work with our Give Back fundraising chair to schedule give-back nights at area restaurants and generate appropriate flyers. Great opportunity for working parents.

____Spring Catalog Chair: Coordinate spring catalog sale. Great volunteer opportunity for work on your own time from home and one scheduled afternoon for purchased items pick-up.*As a chair, your 10 service hours are fulfilled.

____Yankee Candle Catalog Chair: Coordinate Yankee Candle catalog sale. Great volunteer opportunity for work on your own time from home and one scheduled afternoon for purchased items pick-up. *As a chair, your 10 service hours are fulfilled.

Parent Club Meetings: Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:30pm in the Faculty Room and last approximately one hour. Join us to learn about what’s happening in the St. Thomas community. Earn one volunteer credit for attending each meeting. It’s a great way to get involved!
