MISSIONS AT MAYFAIR-PLYMOUTH
Mayfair-Plymouth Church takes very seriously Jesus’ words to His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Each year our goal is to increase our financial commitment to missions, as well as provide opportunities for our members to get involved personally in mission projects.
This booklet describes the missions that we currently support financially on a regular basis. We are convinced that a commitment to missions is not optional for a Christian; it is a command of Christ to be obeyed. What Christ asks of us is never a drudgery, but a joy! What could be more exciting than knowing we have a part in building a home for an Indian widow and her children, in providing a Bible in someone’s native language so they can read God’s Word for the first time and really understand it, in bringing hope to a prisoner and a warm meal and bed to the homeless! Of course the ultimate goal of all the missions we support is to help people discover and accept God’s love for them through His Son, Jesus. No other investment can have more eternal results than this!
You may be asking, “What can I do?” Here are three ways you can get involved in this exciting ministry:
1. Pray for these missionaries. Each one is involved in spiritual warfare of some kind, and our prayers provide them the tools for victory.
2. Volunteer for a local mission or sign up for one of our mission trips. You’re a gifted person, and God’s team would greatly benefit from your contribution.
3. Give financially. You must designate your gift or offering for “Missions” in order for it to be used for that purpose.
When you read through this booklet you’ll gain new insight into the world of missions your church supports.
Campus Crusade for Christ
Brad and Abby Houdashelt minister to college students in East Asia. Their passion is for these students to encounter Christ and become like Him. Their hope is to send every graduate either to missions or back to their culture to be an influence for Christ. Their prayer is for God to make East Asia a resource for other nations to encounter Christ through missions. Their exact location cannot be publicized because of the persecution of Christians that takes place in that country. Brad and Abby have three sons, Jaden, Elias and Corbin.

Children’s Outreach Ministries
The purpose of Children’s Outreach Ministries is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with boys and girls in the greater Toledo area, disciple those children in the Word of God, establish them in a local Bible-believing church, and assist local churches in their efforts to reach children. These goals are accomplished through after-school Bible clubs, summertime kids’ clubs, outreach at area fairs and festivals, and offering teacher training and materials to local churches. Dennis and Liz Tracy, the founders and directors of COM, oversee the ministry from their home.

Since 1956 this mission has been sending salvaged Christian literature to missionaries, pastors, teachers, colleges, and libraries around the world. What began in the mind of a Howell, Michigan scrap iron dealer has grown into a non-profit enterprise that ships used Christian literature to 159 countries where it has been used by approximately 90,000 people. Our used Bibles, Christian books, and audio/video tapes could be reaching the unsaved for Christ instead of gathering dust on the shelf! Also needed are any theological materials, commentaries, concordances, VBS and Sunday school materials in good condition, children’s coloring/activity books, crayons, and craft kits. Mayfair-Plymouth holds scheduled Christian material collections for CRI.

Church Women United Thrift Shop
What began as one woman’s concern for local migrant workers has become over 30 years of outreach to those in need in the greater Toledo area. Besides offering used items at reasonable prices, the shop helps social agencies such as Head Start and Zepf Center with supplies for their programs. They take referrals from the Community Development Center, county nurses, school principals, and area ministers to provide the basic necessities of life. Monies over expenses are used to buy emergency food and clothing, including eyeglasses, special shoes, prescriptions, etc. for those in need. Emergency clothing and household items are provided at no cost. The Shop’s mission is to fulfill Christian discipleship and at the same time provide employment and a means for the needy to help themselves.
Mayfair-Plymouth contributes a quarterly pledge and at Thanksgiving collects many bags of food to be given to those in need through the Thrift Shop. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donations are accepted from the 1st through the 20th of each month on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Fishers of Men
Mayfair-Plymouth Church is enjoying the rare privilege of acting as “sending church” founded by Victor and Julie Zaragoza in 2003. Fishers of Men is an interdenominational, evangelistic, missions organization based in Mexico.
This mission is carried out through two primary components. Evangelistic Medical Missions Crusades carry the good news of Jesus Christ to remote, poverty-stricken areas of Mexico through several weeklong medical mission trips every year. Medical and dental clinics are offered along with free haircuts, children’s activities, and counseling. The good news of Jesus Christ is shared with all those attending the crusade, and the opportunity to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior is given to each person. Crusades are held only in communites with an active missionary or congregation present, in order to ensure effective follow-up and discipleship.
The second component of Fishers of Men is Refuge Ranch, a home for abandoned children headed by Victor and Julie. The animals and large garden provide sustenance for the family and opportunities for each child to contribute to the family, learn responsibility, and develop new talents, abilities, and habits. A home school education offers love, freedom, and structure so that each child can develop into the person that God desires him or her to become.
Julie is the daughter of Pastor Dave and Diann Claassen. Victor and Julie have three biological children, and serve as guardians for fifteen children. Their dream is to open their home to many more children in the future. Volunteers from several churches make up the Board of Directors as well as Friends of Fishers of Men who provide encouragement, advice and financial accountability. Many other churches and individuals in the U.S. and Mexico also support Fishers of Men with physical labor and
financial contributions.

Family Promise Interfaith Hospitality Network of Metro Toledo
The National Interfaith Hospitality Network is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter, meals, and assistance for homeless families. The Toledo IHN began in March of 1993. .
IHN has only one paid employee: the director. Volunteers provide life skills and budgeting classes for clients as well as help in providing used furniture and assistance when they acquire a home.

Bob and Marilyn Trube have had a long-term association with Mayfair-Plymouth. For several years they were active members here while Bob supervised the campus ministry at the University of Toledo. Currently Bob works with graduate students and faculty members at Ohio State University. He organizes and leads Bible studies and retreats for graduate students, as well as four professional groups: OSU Law, Capital Law, OSU Vet, and OSU MBA. Bob and Marilyn have one son, Ben, who is a student at OSU.

Re-Entry, Prison & Jail Ministry, Inc.
Ben Conarroe’s military brig ministry is appropriately called “Hebrews 13:3,” because the Bible verse states, “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” The mission of the Hebrews 13:3 ministry is to develop mentoring relationships with prisoners in military brigs and to continue those relationships when the inmates are released. Pregnancy Center of Greater Toledo
From abstinence education to post-abortion support, the Pregnancy Center is changing lives. Since 1984, over 36,000 women have been served by the Pregnancy Center, and a solid abstinence message has been presented to over 5,000 teens and parents through their Responsible Social Values Program (RSVP) per year. Ultrasound scans and physician consultations have been used for 11 years, and have been instrumental in helping abortion-minded women chose life for approximately 550 babies. “Face to Face” and “Men of Integrity,” Pregnancy Center support groups, foster healthy pregnancies and responsible parenting while providing the opportunity for participants to earn new baby items. Director Janet Bosserman and many volunteer workers offer these free and confidential services supported entirely by donations like those of Mayfair-Plymouth.

Radio Bible Class Ministries
Radio Bible Class broadcasts locally on WPOS (102.3 FM) and telecasts locally over TV 40 via the 30-minute Day of Discovery program. It provides challenging Bible teaching and uplifting music in its broadcasts and telecasts. A number of Christian publications are also provided by Radio Bible Class, among them Our Daily Bread, the guide for personal and family devotions used by Mayfair-Plymouth members. Because the Radio Bible Class provides all of its written materials free of charge, our Mission Board sends a quarterly donation to offset the cost of the 200 devotional books we distribute four times a year.

Serving In Missions
In July, 1998, the Mission Board voted to support Jeff and Rose Shaffer, who are missionaries to Zambia in Southern Africa. They serve at the Chizela Bible Institute, Jeff in the areas of agriculture and maintenance and Rose at the medical clinic. The Shaffers have three children: Melissa, Jared, and Seth. They are from the greater Toledo area; Jeff’s parents live in southeastern Michigan.

Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission
Under the direction of Tom Clapsaddle, the Rescue Mission ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of area homeless and low-income persons. Meals are provided daily, while separate men’s and women’s shelters provide overnight lodging. Low-income families benefit from perishable food, winter clothes, and hygiene items given away by the Mission. Recipients of the Mission’s services are encouraged to attend Christian worship services that are held daily. Financial and spiritual guidance and counseling are offered in an effort to help the clients of the Rescue Mission become self-supporting and to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Mayfair-Plymouth contributes financially on a quarterly basis, and volunteers provide dinner the fourth Saturday of the month at the Mission.

World Partners
World Partners is the missions’ agency of the Missionary Church denomination, an evangelical denomination committed to church planting and world missions. World Partners is committed to building Christ’s church by engaging in worldwide evangelism, discipleship, multiplication, and practical service to the glory of God.
World Partners has over 100 staff members in 23 countries. In the United States, World Partners has a special focus called Immigrant Ministries. Mayfair-Plymouth supports Immigrant Ministries staff members here in Toledo who are sharing the love of Christ with Arabic families.

Wycliffe Bible Translators
Bill and Dorie Mayes have served in several locations including California, Papua New Guinea, North Carolina and Nairobi, Kenya since joining
Wycliffe in 1987. Most recently they have returned to the Wycliffe headquarters in North Carolina. Some 6,000 workers in over 50 nations are engaged in bringing God’s Word to over 300 million people around the world who are without the Bible in their own language. Bill’s work as a computer specialist and Dorie’s work as Member Care Facilitator are vitally important to the Wycliffe team.

The Mission and Benevolence Board is committed to meet these pledges and to invest in our total mission and benevolence giving through donations made by the members and friends of Mayfair-Plymouth Church.
Only offerings marked “mission” are used to pay our budgeted pledges. If an
amount of money is designated to a specific mission, it is sent over and above the budgeted amount for that mission.
The Mission Board depends on your gifts to the Missions and Benevolence fund in order to faithfully fulfill the pledges we’ve made to these missions, as well as to have the resources available to meet emergency needs through the Benevolence Fund.
Guidelines for Establishing and Maintaining Missions
1. Mission should be an evangelistic teaching and believing organization.
2. Financial support for an active Mayfair-Plymouth member will be given
priority.
3. An investigation to be made through the ECFA (Evangelical Council of
Financial Accountability) or annual financial statement/board budget shall
be attained to determine fiscal accountability and responsibility.
4. An investigation made if a mission reorganizes or changes affiliation.
5. Determine how our financial support impacts the mission.
6. Determine if the mission is full or part time.
7. Require an annual visit in person from someone in the mission, where
applicable.
8. Maintain a balance of national, international and local mission support.
9. An honorarium check of $100 will be given to an individual speaker or sent
to the organization after speaking to Mayfair-Plymouth congregation.
10. Individual person going on a Mission Trip will be provided $250 toward
his/her trip after request is received, prior to the trip, in writing or in
person to Mission Board, and subject to availability of Mission Board
funds.
11. Contributions to a Group going on a Mission Trip will be determined upon
request in writing or in person to the Mission Board, prior to the trip, and
the availability of Mission Board funds.
Benevolence Guidelines
Legitimate needs within our church family are weighed by the Board members
and all requests and gifts are kept confidential. We take seriously the instruction
in Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all
people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
In an effort to be good stewards of monies entrusted to us as Mission and
Benevolence Board we have adopted the following guidelines:
1. A request for benevolence should be brought to the Board in person
or in writing.
2. If a member of the congregation is solicited for benevolence they should
refer that request to the Mission and Benevolence Board chairman or
Board member.
3. When someone requests benevolence, sometimes the best gift may be
financial counseling or a specific referral. Therefore, a repeat request
for benevolence will require the willingness to receive available financial
counseling.
4. If a member of the congregation gives benevolence, please be aware that
reimbursement will be considered on a case by case basis.
5. The Mission and Benevolence Board chairman has the authority to
disperse funds up to $200 on an emergency basis. If an amount over $200
is required the Board members will be polled.
6. The Senior Pastor is authorized to expense $50.00 for benevolence.
