Treating Anorexia Nervosa in a Hospital Setting or CMHT

11th and 12th March 2010

This is a two-day course organised by the Regional Network for Eating Disorders and hosted by NHS Lothian.

Who is it aimed at?

It’s aimed at Mental Health workers working in CMHTs and GeneralPsychiatric hospital settings who have to treat patients with severe eating disorders. There are a small, but significant number of patients with Anorexia Nervosa who are treated in these settings around the Region. This course is aimed at helping the management of those patients. Staff interested in working with or in an NHS inpatient unit for Eating Disorders would also find this useful.

The teaching is mainly focused on adult patients but may be relevant to CAMHS staff.

This will concentrate on the psychiatry, psychology and medical complications of severe eating disorders: Why Do People Develop Such Disorders; What is the Outcome; What is the Evidence-Based Treatment; What Medical Investigations Need to be Carried Out; What Abnormalities Might be Found and How Frequently do Tests Need to be Done?

Day 2: Led by Senior Dietitians Perry Burgess (NHS Borders) Jean Corr (NHS Lothian)and Dawn Grupping (NHS Fife)
