  • A few bills were voted on such as limiting student executive board, and resolution to support revenue neutral carbon fees were all passed. Three resolutions were drafted to support and protect undocumented immigrants and students.

  10. We wish to increase conservative voices on campus
  11. Can you tell us the history of this club?
  12. William Buckley originally founded the club; Young Americans Foundation is the parent organizations which was founded by Ronald Reagan.
  13. Does this have any education connection to the parent organization, known for ranching?
  14. Not really looking to expand ranching legislation, only spread conservative voices.

  20. BILL-2017-087:A BILL TO FUND KU SWING SOCIETY, ROCK CHALK SWING 2017

  22. Rock chalk swing is a weekend dance workshop. Holding lesions, social dancing, and competitions. Anyone is invited.
  23. We have 6 instructors and are asking for four of them to be funded.
  24. These are national instructors.
  25. Questions: What is the ratio of students who will be intending.
  26. 130 total students but some townies showed up to the last event. We hope that advertising will bring in more people.

  28. We have donations, coat funding, and non-student registrations from off campus events. Any leftover funds go to next year’s event
  29. What is the format of the event, how will instructors teach the dance?
  30. During the day, there will be progressive classes and electives as well as tiers such as beginners and intermediate. Instructors will move along these classes.

  36. Conservative women’s books club open to all students. They hope to bring in a speaker.
  37. Laura (President)- Jon Birgerwas the author of DATE-ONOMICS: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game. This focuses on the growing disparity between women and men college students. He is an award-winning writer. Has been on Washington Post, New York Times, and other media outlets.

  40. It will be in the English room and we expect about 30 to 60 people and is open to everyone.

  42. We are focused on speakers that benefit the entire student body. We write letters to veterans, we read to patients, and generally basic things to further our community.

  61. BILL-2017-311: A RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT THE CONTINUATION AND EXPANSION OF THE DACA

  63. This resolution began with serval presidents of universities to call on the President Elect to continue DACA and keep the executive order.
  64. DACA allows undocumented students to stay in university and get a social security number while in university
  65. This allows undocumented students to apply for university financial aid.
  66. Many university presidents feel this is crucial to keep diversity in universities and allows students to have opportunities in the United States.
  67. This can have a potential impact on immigration in the United States.
  68. Will send a mass email to other universities to encourage them to do the same.
  69. Questions: This only applies to children of undocumented immigrants?
  70. Yes, this only applies to children of these immigrants.
  71. Negative Speech by Jonathan Ehrlich
  72. This bill has positives as I believe children need to be educated and accepted into American society. This also applies to some economic interests such as immigrant workers, however, I think an economic impact study is needed.
  73. The DACA constitutionality is unknown
  74. We need to help others succeed yet we should prioritize our country first.
  75. SCOTUS may invalidate DACA and the chance of us changing anything is zero.
  76. Questions: Until courts review this order, from my understanding it is currently a law of the land?
  77. There is a possibility that it will be upheld but it is not certain.
  78. Question: Are the interests of the university not also our interest?
  79. I would say that the interests of the university is different than the students in regards to the chancellor and the students.
  80. Question: Why do you think this law is unconstitutional?
  81. The US v Texas struct down a similar law.
  82. Question: Why not try for this even if you feel this has no chance of success?
  83. I think it is a very small argument and I do feel that in general people need to try to fight for what they want.
  84. The reason I believe chance of success is low due to the campaign that the president elect ran under and that I don’t think they will chance their position.
  85. Question: Wouldn’t ethics fall more in favor of this bill as it is help children?
  86. I think ethics can come down as either for or against depending on where the facts fall under.
  87. Question: Had you considered opinions and interests of the people we represent here at KU community rather than the law of the country at large?
  88. I did not consider this box, this could fall on either side and now I would put that in the middle of the issue.

  94. The supreme court hasn’t officially ruled on this and that we should be focusing on representing our students.
  95. This is a unique situation and that we should have restrictions on this country even if other country does. Students should have the same rights as students born in this country.
  96. As representing the students here our job is too not worry about the national laws but focused on the students that we represent. We should affirm the undocumented students
  97. Question: What message would this send if we passed this down?
  98. I think this is show that we aren’t committed to our students if we don’t pass this. This can provide a determent to students if we don’t pass this
  99. Can you distinguish rights and privileges?
  100. I don’t think they are different here at KU, and that all students no matter nationality should be accepted here.
