Policies and Procedures
Academics
1)The first and foremost priority of the student-athlete is academics. Soccer is not mandatory, nor is it a right. Soccer is a privilege based on conduct, attitude and academics.
2)The Head Coach and all authorities above him have the right to put a student-athlete on academic probation or remove him from the team based on these three factors.
3)Every student-athlete must pass 5out of 7 classes in order to be eligible to play and remain on the team. If a student has an IF or only takes 6 classes they must still pass 5 courses to be eligible. (IF does not count as a class.)
4)To help with this task progress reports will be checked every grade update. Athletes that are failing 3 or more classes when grades are checked will not play in any games until their grades are passing. They must pass at least 5 classes
Practice
1)Practice will begin everyday, rain or shine, at 3:45. Athletes will be in full gear ready to start practice by 3:43 and are considered late at this time. Athletes who are not on time will make up time missed at the end of practice.
2)Athletes who miss practice for any reason will forfeit 30 minutes of the next game. This does not include family emergencies or extended illness. This also does not include state playoff games.
3)It is expected that all athletes will take care of all non-emergency appointments outside of practice time (ex. haircuts, doctor appointments, dentist appointments, orthodontist appointments, etc.) IF practice has to be missed because of extreme illness or death in the family then the Coach needs to be contacted by the player or parent NOT by word of mouth (through another player or parent).
4)Athletes will respect the coaches at all times and in return, the coaches will respect the athletes and their abilities. The title “coach” will be used when addressing the coach.
5)The use of profane language will not be tolerated at any time.
6)Players will come to practice with appropriate soccer practice attire. This includes: shorts, shirt, shin guards, cleats and app. soccer style socks.
7)Everyday after practice everyone will take pride in their field by storing equipment and pick up any trash on the field.
Game Day
1)All players will ride the bus to the game. Parents will be allowed the sign their child/children out after the game.
2)All athletes will turn their cell phones off when they get on the bus and will not be allowed to use them till after the game. The coach will have his on in case there is an emergency.
3)All athletes will arrive 1 hour before game time at all home games for warm – up and pre game prep.
4)Gameday attire:
- BoysVarsity players will wear their warm up top and warm up pants on the day of the game. All Varsity athletes will be presentable while in class. Failure to do so will result in loss of game time and other disciplinary action.
- Boys J.V. and 9th/8th grade players will wear opposite colored jerseys, tucked in, on the day of a game.
- Girls Varsity and JV players are expected to wear the attire the team has decided on—warm-ups, practice shirt, dress clothes, etc.
Social Media
1) Players are not allowed to post to the internet any form of media regarding the Ola Soccer Program. This includes, but not limited to, practices, games, bus rides to and from games halftimes, pre and post games etc.
2)Players are not allowed to post disparaging comments on ANY social media site regarding ANY aspect of the Ola High School Soccer Program. This includes, but not limited to, coaches, teammates, players from other teams, referees or booster personnel.
3)ANYdisplay of such conductcan result in immediate dismissal from the team.
Discipline
**Any soccer player engaging in Behavior not becoming of a model student-athlete (in school or not) is subject to immediate dismissal from the team and program.**
** Being part of the Ola High School Soccer Program is a PRIVAILEGE not a RIGHT!!!! **
1)All players will follow the Henry County Board and Ola High School code of conduct.
2)Any use of alcohol or drugs will result in immediate dismissal from the team for the remainder of the year.
3)All use of tobacco and foul/profane language is prohibited and will be dealt with accordingly.
4)Violent act that result in 2 yellow cards or a direct red card is severely frowned upon and will be dealt with accordingly.
Extra Opportunity to get better (EO)
There are 3 levels of EO:
EO level 1 – This level of “opportunity” deals with inner squad issues such as, (but not limited to), missing or arriving late to practice, forgetting equipment on game day or practice. This is also the make up level for those who are excused from practice. This level of “opportunity” is used as a reminder.
EO level 2 – This level of “opportunity” deals with players who are problems in class or at school in general such as, (but not limited to), not showing the teacher the proper respect, not doing class work or home work, being disruptive, cheating etc. This level of “opportunity” is used to help players understand the importance of being a role model around school and in the classroom.
EO level 3 – This level of opportunity deals with three very important areas, embarrassment of the school, fellow teammates/program, and parents. These are serious infractions such as vandalizing school property, stealing, use of drugs or alcohol, etc. Note when a student reaches this level the next step is removal from the program.
