You’re Invited!
- Monty Python’s Spamalot – Opens 3/3, 7:30 p.m. Join us for this year’s spring musical, “Spamalot,” in its northwest high school premier. Performances are on March 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12 in the auditorium. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $5 for children age 6-12, and children under age five are free. There are a limited number of select reserved seats available on-line at a slightly higher price. The box office opens at 7:00 p.m. and the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased the night of the show or in advance at For more information, including the cast list, look here:
- “Future Ready” Parent Information Night – 3/9, 7:00 p.m. All schools in the Beaverton School District are on their way to becoming “Future Ready” within the next three years. Sunset is among the 15 schools chosen to pilot the program. To learn more about this exciting change in teaching and learning, please plan on joining us at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 3/9 for a hands-on “Future Ready” Parent Information Night in the Media Center. This event will feature a brief presentation, a question and answer session, and opportunities to interact with our new devices. For more information, please visit BSD’s “Future Ready” website:
- Spring Choir Concert – 3/29, 7:00 p.m. Enjoy Sunset’s fabulous choir at their spring concert.
For Seniors:
- It’s scholarship application season! Scholarships are being added to Sunset’s scholarship list found here posted on the wall by the main entrance to the media center. There are scholarships to help with tuition at universities, community colleges and technical training schools. And some are only available to Sunset HS students. Check these frequently!
- Buy your Grad Party ticket! Grad party tickets are $80 and include transportation to and from the venue, yummy food, and fabulous activities! It will be a great way to cap off your high school years. The price won’t go up but spots will be limited by the number of buses we’ve ordered to transport students from the graduation ceremony to the surprise location. We have room for about 100 more seniors so buy now to guarantee your seat on the bus. For more information on the grad party, and to download order forms and waivers, go here:
- Need financial help to attend the Grad Party? About 35 confidential scholarship spots are available to those students who need help with the ticket price. Avoid the last minute rush and talk to your counselor now for more information.
- Need financial help to attend Prom? If so, talk to your counselor about scholarships.
For Juniors:
- ACT Prep! Sunset’s ACT day is scheduled for 4/19. You can start preparing on-line now at CIS or ACT. Or come to a series of ACT Prep sessions offered by Sunset’s College & Career Center in the Community Room during 8th period on 3/29, 3/31, 4/4, 4/6, 4/7. Sign up in the CCC required.
- Need financial support to take the SAT or ACT (on days other than 4/19)? If so, talk to your counselor about fee waiver support.
For all Apollos:
- Thank you for supporting “Cram 4Sam,” our annual Cram the StandsCharity Fundraiser in February! We sold over 950 “Cram the Stands” t-shirts and because of your generosity, raised $12,600that was donated to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and to Sam Day,our “Cram the Stands” ambassador.Thank you again!
- Multicultural Week – 2/29 through 3/4. Multicultural Week has started and we have various ways for students to hear about and experience other cultures. Some events include countryexhibits in the Community Room from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., lunchtime food, music, and fun all week. The week will end with a cultural talent assembly Friday 3/4.
- Annual Spring Blood Drive – dedicated to the memory of Nathalie Traller -- Thursday, 3/3 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students age 16 and older can participate and will need to complete a Parental Consent Form prior to signing up for a donation time. Students under the age of 16 are not eligible to donate. Forms can be found in the main office or room M-2.
- Help Band get to Orlando. The Sunset High School Band has been invited to represent Oregon at the Orlando Music Festival at Disney World in April! Please help them raise funds to cover the cost of sending our marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble to a once in a lifetime journey by donating at their Go Fund Me site: Any amount would be very much appreciated!
- Help Choir get to New York. The Sunset High SchoolChoir has been invited to perform in New York at Carnegie Hall this coming April. The choir is asking for help in loweringthe cost of sending 140 students and 30 parent chaperones to the Big Apple. Please help support this amazing opportunity by donatingto the choir through theApollo Webstore ().All donations are fully tax deductible. Thank you!
- Walking Tours for Prospective Students. School administrators have been offering "walking tours" for students and parents who might be interested in learning more about Sunset. The tours start in the Main Office and pre-registration is not required. These tours are intended for students who may be considering an option school or Sunset (their home school). The last scheduled tour is 3/10 at 4:00 p.m.
- Support Sunset when you shop at Amazon. You can support Sunset HS every time you shop at Amazon. Simply access Amazon through choose SHS up as your charitable organization, and when you purchase items, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to Sunset High School PTO. Your Amazon shopping experience will be exactly the same and the SHS PTO will earn money to continue to help the school. Bookmark the link and support SHS every time you shop.
- Partial and Full-day Absences Reminder: The procedures are different for partial and full-day absences. Your cooperation really helps the attendance office efficiently keep track of students. If your student will be gone for part of the school day (either arriving late or departing early for an excused absence), do not call the school. Your student must bring a written note to the attendance office. If your student will miss the entire day of school, call the 24-hour attendance hotline directly at 503 259-5095 by 2:30 p.m. and follow the instructions. - BSD Career Technical and Experiential Education Fair – Tuesday 3/8, 6:30 p.m. at Merlo Station HS. Students from the entire Beaverton School District are invited to this event to explore gratifying, in-demand and financially rewarding careers that only require 1-2 years of post-high school education or training. Stop by Sunset’s College & Career Center for more information.
- Gap Year Brown Bag Lunch Presentation – Tuesday 3/15. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch to the Community Room and listen to a representative explain Gap Year possibilities. The same presentation is offered during both lunches.
- Author/Creative Writing Career Spotlight Event – Thursday 3/17, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interested in a career in writing? Come to this event at SHS sponsored by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. Students must register in advance with the chamber. Other off-site career exploration events are posted in and near the College & Career Center.

News From Counseling:
- Counselors will be completing online forecasting with students in classes during the first two weeks of March.
- Counselors will visiting 9th grade homerooms in March to discuss career planning information.
- Spring Break is a great time to get caught up on missing work. We encourage students to connect with teachers during the next month so that they can use that non-school time to their advantage!
- Summer school information will be coming soon! Watch for information in April or May.
