Horticulture Club Meeting March 20th
First Day of Spring!!!
- Jessica Shults from the Blacksburg Farmers Market an Americorp member was our first speaker.
o -April 1st will mark the Farmers Market located at Marketing Square Park will have the first day of normal business hours:
Wednesdays from 2-7pm and Saturday from 8-2pm
The Farmers Market has Co-operations with: Downtown Blacksburg Inc, Virginia Tech, and Sustainable Blacksburg
o They would like to invite us to help in the Garden Day on May 11th and to collaborate with their Market Kids 2013 gardening and market program.
Some of the things you might find at the market are: Kids, Beef, Chicken, Eggs, Crafts, Honey, Wax, Soaps, Music, and Special events.
o April 6th – Egg Festival (The same Day as our Spring Banquet)
-Nathan Cox : Clemson graduate and Zach Pittinger: Virginia Tech graduate both from Wheat’s Landscaping were our second speakers
o They spoke on account management for maintaining landscapes and the design build aspect. They advocated the importance of teamwork and communication in any landscape company.
Wheat’s was established in 1970’s currently there are 5 landscape designers. If you have any question please feel free or would like to apply for an internship to contact Zach he is a very friendly and understanding person!
