VACANCY DESCRIPTION: Handan Municipal Education Bureau is seeking 5 candidate(s) to work with middle school students in Handan schools in the Hebei Province to enhance students’ learning and culture experiences in English. Handan Municipal Education Bureau is seeking enthusiastic, native English speakers with education and teaching credentials to teach English and culture to middle students using apre-established curriculum.

Handan Municipal Education Bureau is seeking teachers to work from March until June during the current school year and will provide a comprehensive package and the opportunity, if desired for an additional contract for the 2018 – 2019 school year for those with a successful evaluation and desire to continue in the fall. This is a one semester contract position, with the option of renewal for subsequent years upon successful performance evaluations.

Handan City, located in the Hebei province in northern China, is one of its oldest cities. It is known as an industrial city that is very clean with excellent parks, good transportation, and many hidden gems to see. Handan is also home to one of the five major schools of Tai Chi, many historical features, and is a cultural center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current valid teaching certificate or credentials in the United States or Canada, bachelor’s degree and TESOL certification, or bachelor’s degree and experience teaching abroad
  • Experience teaching
  • Experience with middle school age students
  • Experience working with non-native English speakers
  • Flexibility and creativity
  • Ability to build relationships with students and families
  • Best-practice instructional knowledge and pedagogy for English instruction and techniques

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL)/English Language Learner (ELL) certification, training or coursework
  • Experience teaching in a foreign country or with non-native English speakers
  • ESL/ELL program development and/or work with ESL/ELL students in a general education classroom setting
  • Culturally responsive teaching practice knowledge and experience
  • Experience and understanding with and/or teaching U.S. culture combined with language instruction or good working knowledge of U.S. culture and the ability to teach it to secondary students in an interesting, engaging way

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary – $1,240 - $1,400/month, commensurate with experience
  • Insurance commensurate with teachers in China
  • Roundtrip air ticket reimbursement $900 – $1800 (half/full year teaching position)
  • Chinese F visa (successful candidates will have to pay for the visa application fee)
  • Housing on or near the school campus and meals at the school daily during school days
  • Professional development to support teachers in the program and culture within China
  • Local district support team to support teachers in their teaching and daily life
  • Course curriculum will be provided for this program and resources to support classroom instruction will also be provided
