David, a direct descendent of Daniel Boone, designs and create original carvings from his memories of growing up in the mountains of North Carolina. His carvings have won many top awards including several “Best of Show”, “Show Theme,” and “People’s Choice” ribbons. “The Older I Get the Better I Was” is carved in basswood and is 11“ tall, including the base. Original signed woodcarving by Caricature Carver’s of America founding member Harold Enlow. Harold is the Godfather of caricature carving in the United States. His work and teaching have inspired nearly every active caricature carver today. “Amber Spark” is carved in basswood and is typical of Harold’s style. Original signed woodcarving by Caricature Carver’s of America member Gary Falin. Gary, a retired alternative high school teacher, is a prolific caricature carver. He teaches on a regular basis, and is a consistent winner in carving shows and whittling contests. Gary won “Best of Show” at the first two CCA Caricature Carving competitions. “Wormy” is mounted on an 11” high backboard. The carving and backboard are 3” deep. Gene, a retired professor from Boise State University, has been active in Pacific Northwest carving activities and the Idaho Carvers Guild for many years. He has held all of the Guilds principal offices, including president, and served for two years as the Guild show chair. Gene was inducted into CCA in 2005. He’s our Rookie. Eldon, a resident of Guelph, Ontario, and a retired Chief Superintendent of the Ontario Provincial Police is our lone Canadian member. “Jock MacFore” is typical of Eldon’s style. This is Wild Bill Hickock country so a caricature of the famous gunfighter is certainly appropriate. Wild Bill is 12” tall, including the base, and is finished in light acrylic washes. There is a unique quality to his carving that has enabled many collectors and students of woodcarving to easily identify his carvings. “Campaign Rabbit” is a classic Sabol carving. Harley specializes in human, free standing, deep relief, using 1” and 2” thick boards and making the carving appear as if it is carved in the round. “Old Gus” is a classic Schmitgen carving. His carvings are handled by Silver Dollar City and other galleries in the Branson area. “Old Friends” is a classic Sears cowboy scene. It is done in basswood and is finished in light acrylic washes. This 10” tall elderly gentleman and his dog (“Man with Dog”) is a typical Stetson carving. It is carved in basswood and finished in Dave’s unique style of painting that includes a preliminary coat of boiled linseed oil followed by sealing and application of acrylic colors. Dennis’ style of caricature is to create carvings in which the subjects are placed in exaggerated situations. Dennis has won many awards for his carvings including several “Best of Show” and People’s Choice. “Sticky Situation” is a classic Thornton carving. Hip Appalachian carving style typically places both people and animals in humorous situations. In this carving the “Old World Santa” is checking his list twice before making his rounds. Two original signed woodcarvings by Caricature Carver’s of America member Joe You. Joe, a life-long art student, has interests in many art forms including portrait drawing, Chinese brush painting, and cartooning. Joe specializes in one-piece carvings usually depicting a humorous scene. He is also know for his miniature Old World Santas. Two of those Santas, 2” in height are offered in this lot.
