/ Membership and Annual Giving Manager

Position Summary / The Membership and Annual Giving Manageroversees all activity related to membership and annual gift fundraising, includingnew member acquisition;membership renewals; gift acknowledgement and recognition; and donor stewardship. As an integral member of the Natural Lands Trust development team, the position also includes important assignments associated with broader departmental and organizational priorities.
Primary Responsibilities / General
  • Engagesand collaborates with colleagues throughoutthe organization to meet strategic and annual work plan goals for membership fundraising and programming.
  • Develops and implements membership and annual gift plans– includingacquisition, renewal, upgrade, acknowledgement, fulfillment, recognition, and stewardship – for supporters up to the $1,000 level.
  • Works with Donor Services Coordinator to ensure that all gift and membership processing systems are efficient and effective. Provides data entry assistance when backlog necessitates.
Fundraising
  • Develops cases of support for membership and annual giving that are consistent with all strategic plan and other organizational case-making objectives.
  • Generates all membership renewal and annual giving appeals; cultivates members to move up the giving ladder; and integrates efforts with major donor cultivation.
  • Establishes individual membership campaign benchmarks to meet strategic goals (2016 goals include doubling membership to 5,000 households by the end of 2018); capitalizes on opportunities to convert preserve visitors and event participants to organizational supporters.
  • Coordinates relationships with direct mail consultants to help build Natural Lands Trust’s base of support through new member acquisition.
  • Designs and implements a membership fundraising strategy unique to Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden – a new and special Natural Lands Trust property that will open to the public in the fallof 2017.
  • Oversees and implements matching gift and gift membership activities.
  • Develops and tracks the revenue and expense budgets required to implement membership acquisition and retention plans.
  • Utilizes available data to forecast and track appeal results, membership trends, and solicitation tactics. Reviews membership campaign progress and results analysis with Director of Institutional Giving on a regular basis.
Relationship Management and Advancement
  • Acts as primary relationship manager for members and annual donors whose combined annual support is less than $1,000.
  • Composes and regularly updates acknowledgement letters for membership, monthly giving, matching gifts, gift memberships, and additional gifts as needed.
  • Coordinates with colleagues in the Communications and Engagement Department to develop member events and cultivation programs.
  • Responds to individual customer service issues related to membership marketing and membership benefits.
  • Manages and maintains records for Natural Lands Trust members and prospects; coordinates the annual donor listing process.
Other
  • Coordinates with the Communications and Engagement Department to leverage publications, e-newsletters, social media, and other communications in support of membership goals.
  • Keeps current on direct marketing and membership marketing trends by attending professional meetings, reading, and networking.
  • Assists Development Department colleagues with donor cultivation events, annual large-scale fundraising event, and leadership meetings.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications /
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum three to five years of specialized training and experience in direct marketing and membership program management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including non-profit case-making or fundraising experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general marketing techniques, including direct marketing, social networking, and print material development.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets as well as in data analysis and donor appeal reporting.
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment; affinity for learning about and assisting with other Development Department fundraising and relationship advancement priorities
  • Talent for managing-up (particularly staff and volunteer leadership) as well as for making meaningful connections with outside constituents.
  • Proficiency in word processing and computer databases; ability to learn specific database software and to analyze and utilize database information; knowledge of Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge or similar fund-raising software preferred.
  • Strong interest in conservation and Natural Lands Trust’s mission.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions /
  • Position requires hiking hills and walking uneven terrain in addition to reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for placement and setup of event support items up to 20-35 pounds (tables, chairs, signs, displays, etc.).
  • Ability to travel throughout the region (eastern PA and southern NJ) for meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Position will require a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends, particularly during the fall and spring event seasons.
