Job Summary/ Main Purpose
To clean and wash up all crockery, cutlery, utensils, cooking pots in the main or conference kitchens and ensure appliances and equipment are kept clean and adhere to environmental health and infection control standards.
To assist in food preparation and food delivery when required and under the supervision of the qualified chefs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out washing up and cleaning duties ensuring that all kitchen equipment and utensils are put away safely and correctly.
- Daily: sanitise kitchen, dining room and vending equipment.
- Deep clean main kitchen every week.
- Sort and put away dining room and patient cutlery/crockery.
- Delivery of meals to meeting rooms, patients’ rooms and dining room when required.
- Regularly check dining room supplies for napkins, sauces, condimentsand tea/coffee supplies etc.
- Regularly checking dining room for dirty crockery, cutlery and general tidiness and cleanliness of tables and area.
- Check items are safely and securely put away.
- Any other duties as required by the Catering Team Leader or Conference and Facilities Manager.
Occasional Duties
- Training sessions on fire and health and safety matters, food safety, infection control, COHSS, mandatory training, cleaning and on technical aspects relating to the job.
- Collecting crockery/cutlery from other parts of the building.

Regular contact with patients, families, visitors, staff and volunteers.
Working Conditions
Approximately 5 hours per day of lifting, carrying, washing and cleaning within a busy kitchen environment, which can be noisy and warm. The candidate needs to be conscious of health and safety, slippery floors and surfaces. Aware of sharp knives, glass and potential breakages.

It is the policy of Dorothy House Hospice to promote positive health. Smoking is therefore actively discouraged and is prohibited for staff in the hospice and grounds.
