JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:GUW Research Officer – part time 2 year contract

Report to:Chief Executive

Liaison with:GUW and GDW staff

Hours:17.5 hours weekly

Key Responsibilities

  • To undertake research and information analysis in support of policy development.
  • To work alongside the GUW Development Team to develop suitable research methodologies and specifications
  • To lead the development of a staff up-skilling and training programme to integrate research and intelligence work into organisational activity.
  • To monitor, analyse and report on demographic and social patterns and trends

Key Duties

  • To work in partnership with people both inside and outside the GUW to ensure the forward planning of research requirements, the specification of research briefs, the terms of reference and the successful outcome of research projects.
  • To design and undertake research and evaluation projects;
  • To collaborate with operational staff and external partners on research and evaluation projects.
  • To analyse and interpret research data;
  • To ensure quality control of research projects and meet agreed timescales;
  • To apply research and evaluation evidence to support Welsh golf’s strategic planning and policy development;
  • Leading the development of a staff up-skilling and training programme to integrate research and intelligence work into organisational activity
  • Keep up to date with developments in policy and social issues which effect Welsh golf.

  • To ensure that all activities undertaken are carried out to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in accordance with the Union’s policies and procedures
  • The role will be primarily based in the GUW Headquarters in Newport however travel within Wales may be extensive with potential overnight stays.
  • The successful candidate will need a clean driving license.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in appropriate discipline and ideally with recent and relevant continuing self-development
  • Experience in leading/managing research and evaluation projects
  • Experience of preparing, reporting and presenting findings
  • Experience of developing monitoring systems and different research methodologies
  • Budget management and planning

Skills

  • Strong IT skills and ability to use software programmes for data analysis and presentation
  • Analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Effective project and time management
  • Survey design and analysis
  • Communication skills including report writing and confidence in delivering clear, concise presentations and communicating complex issues to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience in training and up-skilling staff in relevant areas.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility for actions
  • Ability to work accurately always and under pressure at times
  • Full driving license
