A Typical Day

School begins at 9:10 AM each morning. All second graders gather in the cafeteria under the supervision of a teacher. They are dismissed from the cafeteria at 8:55 AM. If your child walks to school, please do not have him/her arrive before 8:45 AM. There is no supervision before that time. If your child arrives after 9:10, you need to sign him/her in at the office to receive a late pass. Second grade has recess from 11:15 – 11:45 AM, and lunch from 11:45 – 12:15 PM. There will also be an afternoon recess from 2:15 – 2:30 PM. Students should wear jackets, hats, gloves, etc… as appropriate based on the weather.

Homework Policy

It is our intent that homework will serve as an opportunity to practice and reinforce learning beyond the classroom. The district’s guidelines will suggest 20 minutes of homework for second grade. Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday and should be returned the following day.

School Work

It will not be necessary for children to acquire work when absent for one or two days. Teachers will review work when your child returns to school. In the event of an extended illness, please contact the office early in the day to request work.

Report Cards

Report cards will be distributed three times throughout the year. Students in grades K, 1, and 2 do not receive a report card for first marking period. You are to retain the copy of the report card that is sent home. Please sign the report card envelope and return it to the school.

Conferences

Conferences will be held in November. You should meet with your child’s teacher at least once during the school year. If you feel the need for an additional meeting, please notify the teacher.
