permanent interactive exhibitions for children in the education program. The Museum staff have some great plans for using it as part of the World War I interactive activities for children. (See the mannequin pictured above in the newly re-furbished Education Centre.)

We have raised some of the funds towards the child mannequin through our participation in the Local Matters competition at Grill’d in Claremont in January this year. At short notice we were advised we had been accepted into the competition so we quickly advised as many people as we could, including Friends for whom we have email addresses and the staff of the Museum and Claremont Council. Although we didn’t win, we received a large number of votes for our project and a $100 participation award.

Friends Banking

The Friends finances continue to be well managed and considerable time has gone into making necessary changes to signatories on the account in accordance with changes in office bearers and decisions of the Committee to ensure good governance. This has not proved straightforward and has required considerable perseverance on the part of our Treasurer, Tim Graham- Taylor and the various signatories.

Committee Meetings & Christmas Windup

The Committee of The Friends has continued to meet on a monthly basis – normally on the third Thursday of each month at the Museum and all members of The Friends are welcome. We are privileged to receive a report from the Museum Curator (who is a member of our Committee) about the exciting activities, projects and programs of the Museum.

The Committee held a very successful final year meeting and Christmas windup in December 2013. The gathering after the meeting was held on the Deck of the Boat Shed, which has now become a bit of a tradition for Friends’ functions. Staff members were thanked for their highly professional and dedicated efforts and achievements throughout a particularly busy 2013, as were members of the Committee of The Friends for their efforts in supporting and promoting the Museum and for the food and refreshments contributed to the event!

The traffic management design in Bay View Terrace is currently and officially known as The Bay View Terrace Shared Space Upgrade.

Some pedestrians and some motorists have expressed their concerns about the perceived hazards of this crowded arrangement. However, we can see in the photo (above) that in 1927 not only were there cars parked and travelling on either side of the two way street, but a tram ran up and down the middle.

Service trucks of the old tray variety regularly stopped at produce shops and Mr. Cordin,
