SINGLE-HANDED RACE

EVENT SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

INTRODUCTION: The Palmer’s Cove Yacht Club (PCYC) invites all Yachts with a valid 2008 PHRF certificate to race in:

The Palmer’s CoveSINGLE-HANDED RACE.

RULES: The race will be governed by the US Sailing RRS 2005-2008, MBSA Notice of Race and General Sailing Instructions, except as these are changed by these Event Sailing Instructions.

Only one person is to be onboard the boat during the race.

Automated steering devices are not to be used.

RRS 40.1,Personal buoyancy, will be in effect whether or not the “Y” flag is flown or the sound signal is made

(this changes RRS 40.1)

ENTRIES: Entries will be accepted at the skippers meeting. Early entries may be sent to: Palmer’s Cove Yacht Club Race Committee, 74 Leavitt St, Salem, MA, 01970, accompanied by a valid rating certificate and the entry fee of $25 check made payable to PCYC Regatta Committee.

NOTICES TO COMPETITORS: Notices to competitors will be communicated to those registered for the race by e-mail or phone as required.

ASkippers Meeting will be held at 5:00 on the day of the race, June 27, 2008, at PCYC.

CHANGES IN SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Any changes to the General or Event Sailing Instructions will be announced at the Skipper Meeting and/or by VHF radio prior to the Warning Signal.

SCHEDULE OF RACES: A single race is scheduled.

CLASS FLAGS: Yachts shall fly Code Flag –R- to designate participation, there will be one class, cruising ratings will be used.

RACING AREA: In the vicinity of Salem Channel R “16” (Fl R 4 sec) or as directed by the R/C Boat.

MARKS: MBSA Standard Rounding Marks, Lists A & B, or as described orally by race committee. (Appendix Q1)

THE START: Appendix QSound-Signal Starting System will be used.

The first Warning Signal will be made no sooner than 1800 hours.

RECALLS: The Race Committee will attempt to hail premature starters on VHF Channel 78. The failure to hail premature starters, the hail of some but not all premature starters, or the untimely hail of premature starters shall not be grounds for redress [Changes RRS 62.1(a)].

TIME LIMIT: Three hours after the start.

PRIZES: Trophies will be awarded to the top three competitors.

Additional prizes may or may not be awarded at the discretion of the PCYC Regatta Com.

RADIO COMMUNICATION & EMERGENCY CONDITIONS: The Race Committee will monitor VHF Channel 78 from 1700 hours until the last yacht has finished the race.

Emergency conditions should be reported to the Race Committee on VHF Channel 78.

The PCYC Base and Dockmaster will monitor VHF Channel 78.

HOSPITALITY: The hospitality of the club is extended to all skippers, their crews and guests, to participate in the trophy presentations and social activities.

Note: Parking in the PCYC Lot is limited to club members’ vehicles; there is on-street parking available.
