ANNUAL MEETING 2006
ANNOUNCEMENT
Annual Meeting of the Transportation and Public Utilities Group (TPUG) / AEA will be held on January 6-8, 2006 (Friday-Sunday) in Boston, MA. Program details will be found below. Note the Luncheon Reservation form on page 10; and a New Membership/Membership Renewal Application (please make a copy and give it to an interested friend) provided separately. All TPUG events will be held at the Hilton Back Bay. The Annual Business meeting will be held Saturday, January 6 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Hilton Back Bay Lincoln room. Also please note that the dues increase approved last year is in effect. Dues are now $20 annually or a lifetime membership is available for $200.

TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC UTILITIES GROUP (TPUG) DISSERTATION AWARD
If approved by the members, TPUG will conduct its annual TPUG Doctoral dissertation competition in 2006 to acknowledge outstanding contributions of young scholars in the fields of transportation and public utilities. An announcement will be distributed to all members and through other appropriate channels in early 2006.
John Howard Brown will organize two sessions (one each of public utilities and transportation topics) for the International Industrial Organization Conference in Boston MA, April 7-9, 2006. Please submit paper abstracts by November 20, 2005.

DISTINGUISHED MEMBER AWARDS DISTINGUISHED MEMBER AWARDS
In 1964, the chair-elect of the Transportation and Public Utilities Group was instructed
A. . . to appoint a committee to study plans for honoring Transportation and Public Utility Group members who have made significant contributions to the field and to the Transportation and Public Utilities Group during their careers.@ The committee=s conclusions and recommendations provided for the recognition of past achievements of individuals who have enjoyed full, distinguished careers. This precedent was reaffirmed in the spring of 1973 by ballot vote of the membership.
As a result of this directive, forty-seven awards of recognition have been made since 1965. In four of these years, two or more awards were presented. Recipients include: James C.
