Attachment 1
FORMULATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1998 COMMUNITY INVESTMENT GRANTS
Recommendation:That 1999 City of Edmonton Community Investment Hosting Grants in the amount of $13,089 be awarded to fourteen organizations as outlined in Attachment 2.
Report Summary
- The recommendations in this report provide for the awarding of 1999 Hosting grants under the City of Edmonton Community Investment Grant Program.
Previous Council/Committee Action
- At its meeting of January 19, 1999 City Council approved the following division of funds for the purpose of funding each of the categories under the Community Investment Operating (Multiculturalism and Recreation/Sport) and Travel & Hosting Grant Programs:
Recreation/Sport Operating$119,000
Multicultural Operating$53,000
Travel & Hosting$53,000
TOTAL$225,000
Report Summary
- There were a total of sixteen applications received for funding under the Community Investment Hosting program as of the April 30, 1999 deadline. On May 27, 1999 the Community Services Advisory Board met to consider these applications and recommended funding for fourteen of the sixteen applicants. In recent years this grant program has been consistently over subscribed, potentially leaving no money for teams or individuals later in the year. Therefore successful applicants are recommended to receive 75% of their award at this time. If at the end of the year there are excess funds in this grant program then the applicants will receive the balance owed to them.
Justification of Recommendation
- The 1999 Community Investment Hosting grant recommendations are in accordance with City Policy C211C, Community Investment Grants to Organizations and Individuals. Attachments 3 – 18 provide an overview of each applicant’s request and eligibility.
Background Information Attached
- Summary of Community Investment Hosting Grant eligibility criteria.
- Summary of recommendations for 1999 Community Investment Hosting Grants.

Background Information Available on Request

Attachment 1
FORMULATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 1999 COMMUNITY HOSTING GRANTS
1.Each application was reviewed for eligibility in accordance with City Policy C211C Community Investment Grants to organizations and individuals.
- Grant award recommendations were based on the following considerations:
a)Level of event, i.e. International, National, Western Canadian, Provincial.
b)Number of Participants.
c)Number of days the event is taking place.
d)Whether the event is adult or youth oriented.
e)Amount of eligible expenditures.
f)City of Edmonton recognition potential.
3.A comparison of the funding levels for “like” events (i.e. similar expenditures, numbers of participants, number of days, adult/youth, level of event) from 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 Community Investment Hosting recommendations was undertaken in order to remain as consistent as possible when formulating these recommendations.
4.Percentage of eligible expenses was also considered. Organizations were not recommended for funding more than 25% of their total Operating expenses for the event.
5.All successful applicants will receive 75% of their award at this time. If at the end of the year there are excess funds in the Community Investment Travel and Hosting Grant Program then the applicants will receive the balance owed to them.
6.Consideration was also given to any other Community Services Advisory Board previous decisions regarding event potential eligibility.
