OLSAT TESTING
Seventh Grade Students at Fatima will participate in the Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test. This is a group intelligence test that will be administered to 7th grade students during Ms. Brunnert’s 7th grade English. Additional info once a testing date is set.
8th Grade Computers (Mrs. Temmen)
Students are learning the touch method of keyboarding. This means that they should not look at their keys or hands when on the computer. Students have the opportunity to receive bonus points for practicing their keyboarding at home. Students have a sheet they need to fill out in order to receive the bonus and parents have to sign the sheet to verify the amount of time.
7th & 8th Grade English (Ms. Brunnert)
We are starting our essays which will be entered in the VFW Patriot’s Pen competition. The students will be given time to work on these essays during class, but there will also need to be some work done at home. Please remind your child to stay caught up with their assignments and if he or she has any questions, please encourage them to come see me before or after school. Thank you for all the help at home!
7th and 8th Grade Reading (Ms. Brunnert)
We are winding down our reading of the novel Flush and will soon be preparing to take the final test. Please encourage your son or daughter to share the story with you (It is extremely entertaining!) and help them study in preparation for the test. Also, the nonfiction books reports, which we started during the second week of school, are due Wednesday, October 1st. If your son or daughter needs any help, he or she is welcome to come see me before or after school.
JH P.E. (Mrs. Woody)
In 7th hour PE, we are still playing soccer, working hard on skills and trying to learn terms of positions and the responsibility of those positions. We have also started our pre-fitness testing, with the mile run, sit-up test and flexibility test. Next week we will conclude our pre-fitness test with the shuttle run and push-ups. Study guide for soccer will be due October 6th and test is October 13th.
8th hour PE, we are finishing up our unit in Flag football on Monday or Tuesday. We will then start our unit on soccer. This class has started the pre-fitness test with the mile run. We will complete the pre-fitness testing by the end of October. Students have worked hard to learn the positions and the responsibilities of those positions, they have done a good job of this and keep good sportsmanship while playing.
7th Grade Pre-Algebra (Mrs. Kesel)
Two chapters down already! Students are taking their Chapter 2 test Tuesday, September 30th. In Chapter 2 we learned to simplify expressions and solve simple equations. Simplifying was a new concept for the students, so we spent some extra time with it. I feel like that paid off, and most are getting good at Distributive Property and Combining Like Terms (and they should know it for their test!). In Chapter 3 we will be combining Simplifying and Solving to find solutions to more complex equations. Students seem to be doing a good job keeping up with their notes and binders. We will be having a notebook/binder check sometime before the end of the quarter.
8th Grade Pre-Algebra (Mrs. Kesel)
We really took our time to get through Chapter 1, but it sure paid off! I was very proud of the scores on our Chapter 1 Test…there were 8 A’s and the class average was a B. Nice Job! Vocabulary Test scores were not as good; we will be making vocab cards for each chapter, so please encourage your student to study these now and then before the end of the chapter. We will move a little more quickly through Chapter 2 and learn to do some of the work on our calculators (please check to make sure your student is bringing their calculator every day). We will be having a notebook/binder check sometime before the end of the quarter. Hopefully students have been keeping up by taking notes and putting all returned papers in their binders.
