EWU 170 LITERARY TERMS
BOOK PROJECT
THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT AT EWU HAS CREATED A LIST OF TERMS THEY EXPECT YOU KNOW THROUGHOUT THE COURSE. THESE TERMS WILL BE DISCUSSED, USED AND ASSESSED IN UNIT QUIZZES. TO BETTER PREPARE YOU FOR SPRING QUARTER, I AM GOING TO ASK YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN “BOOK” OF THESE TERMS. I WILL ALSO QUIZ YOU ON THE TERMS AND THEY WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE GENERAL LITERARY TERMS QUIZZES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
INSTRUCTIONS (FOR EACH WORD):
1. Look up the definition of the word and write it out.
2. Find a literary excerpt of this word (online, in the Norton’s Anthology, or in another literature book).
3. Explain the function of the excerpt.
4. Draw a picture that will help you to remember the meaning or function of the word (these do not need to be great masterpieces).
5. Extra Credit: Create your own example of the word.
6. You may work together or with a partner BUT everyone must complete each word in the above manner and put it into a separate book.
7. The book needs a cover (EWU 170 KEY LITERARY TERMS), must be put together in alphabetical order and MUST be typed (Times New Roman, 12 point font).
8. Each of the excerpts requires MLA citation.
9. Each of you will then present one word to the class.
