Mental Health Advocate

£30,000 per annum (pro-rata) | 17.5 hours per week (part-time)

Thispost is based across Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham (and involves travel across London)

Women and Girls Network (WGN) is a specialist therapeutic service leading in developing and delivering innovative and effective services for women and girls who have experienced all forms of gender-based violence. The Indigo Project is an exciting and innovative service providing support to women and girls from a background of multiple disadvantages, and with complex, high-risk needs primarily associated with experiences of gender-based violence.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual with an in-depth understanding of key issues affecting this client group. She will have a strong commitment to eradicating gender-based violence, challenging systems and structures, to ensure the rights and needs of clients are protected and promoted. She will bepassionate about developing and delivering empowering client centred services and will thrive in a multi-cultural feminist environment.

The service delivers specialist, trauma focused, integrated holistic, high-intensity care pathways from a multi-disciplinary team.The Mental Health Advocates are pivotal members of this team, and this is an opportunity to work with a diverse remit to ensure quality of advocacy provision,with innovation as central to service delivery. The successful applicant will have a background in and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team in a VAWG specialist organisation
  • Experience of engaging clients with mental health presentations including high risk and multiple needs
  • Good understanding of mental health legislation and a proven track record of protecting and promoting the rights of clients
  • Wide experience of advocating across a variety of settings and issues,including health providers, immigration, social care, housing and welfare agencies
