Treasurer’s Report: Sheryl Pasmans
- Sheryl advised that there has been no recent activity or cheques written.
- She is still waiting for invoices to pay for items outlined in our budget.
- A question was raised regarding continuing with door prize draws for PAC meetings. If we continue to purchase door prizes, there won’t be much money left in the slush fund of our operating account. The concensus was that as three door prizes have already been purchased they will be spread over the remaining meetings for the year.
DPAC Report:
We skipped this item as Sheri was absent from the meeting.
Administrator’s Report: Rob Zambrano
- Dec was very busy. There were a few behaviour challenges during the last week of November and the first week of December.
- The office is hoping to get students’ marks on Thursday.
Important dates:
- Jan 8 – grade 9’s had tetanus shots
- Jan 17 – 6 – 7:30 A meeting/presentation is scheduled regarding the new school building. This will be an opportunity to answer questions and talk to the architects. Rob has been focussed on the educational components of the new school.
- This weekend Centennial will host the Girls’ Top Ten Basketball Tournament. The event will accomplish some fundraising through entry fees and concession.
- Jan 20 – last day of classes for the first semester.
- The week after will be a time for exams and making up assignments. Check the school’s website for a schedule. Math 10 was supposed to be electronic for the first time but due to the labour issue there will be one sitting of math exams instead.
- Jan 30 – start of second semester. Grade 12’s got their schedules today. Grade 11’s will get them on Wednesday. Grade 10’s will get their schedules next Monday. This gives students an opportunity to see councillors for changes if necessary.
- Five new blocks have been added: alternate program (aboriginal), Social Studies 11, Planning 10, Art 11 and 12.
- More international students will be coming next year.
- Feb 1 – Grade 8 parent night meeting.
- Feb 2 – Opening night of the Centennial musical “Twenty-fifth Annual Putnam Spelling Bee”. There will be a couple of prior dress rehearsals which sold out in minutes.
- Most teachers have given parents two updates by now. If not, contact the teacher in question and he or she will provide an update.
- Spring Break is only six weeks away.
- Around Feb 8 grade 12’s should receive their official marks.
- Feb 15 – Grade 9, 10, and 11 parent night programming meeting.
- Building will begin in the fall of 2012 with a target for the new school to be ready for September 2014. A slide presentation was then viewed which showed the plans for the new school building.
Old Business:
- Bruce will organize staff appreciation day again this year. It was agreed that it will be held on March 9th.
New Business:
- Jacquie is hoping to change the grad gown supplier. Students would be able to keep the gowns for the same cost as renting the gowns. The fabric is thinner but purchasing the gowns would take much less organizational time and would allow flexibility for ceremony dates.
- Commencement will take place either at the Orpheum Theatre or the QueenElizabethTheatre. Confirmation of the date will be made three months prior.
- A suggestion was made to send out invitations to parents for the May 7th PAC meeting. They will also be handed out Feb 1 at the grade 8 parents’ meeting. Coleen will put the invitation together.
- Fire trucks attended the school on Sunday. The water sensors keep going off and it is difficult to determine which ones are malfunctioning.
Door prize:
Randy won the fresh flowers.
