Title of Role: / Arts Designer – Sensory Room
Purpose of Role: / To design tranquil, relaxing wall art for a sensory room for adults on an inpatient acute mental health ward.
Patients will mainly be using this space to enable a sense of calm. Art will need to be age appropriate and the Artist should be aware that both males and females will be using the space.
Those on the ward have already chosen the colour lilac for one wall so the work will need to complement the existing colour.
Tasks: / To design and complete the wall art in the sensory room.
Please note that this opportunity will not involve working with patients but will be an excellent opportunity to use your artistic skills to create something meaningful for those who are acutely unwell.

Personal Qualities and Requirements of volunteer: / The volunteer must be open minded and non-judgemental.They must feel comfortable working in an acute setting and aware that patients may want to engage with them about the work they are doing.
They must be happy to engage in a dialogue with the Occupational Therapists on the ward regarding their design ideas.
They must be willing to research and seek appropriate advice regarding the concept of the sensory room in order that their designs reflect the needs of the room.
What is the minimum commitment required: / This is a one-off project, which will lastfor the duration of the project only.
Does the volunteer need to drive? / No
Hours required from volunteers - Hours are fully negotiable with the ward;

How will volunteers be supervised and supported:
Volunteers will be supported by both the Voluntary Services department as well as the Occupational Therapists on the ward.About the Ward / Department:
Oak Treatment ward is a 16 bedded ward for individuals aged between 17-65 years old experiencing acute mental health challenges.A typical stay is of up to 3 weeks. The ward is a mixed unit.

Assessment unit is an 18 beddedward for individuals aged between 17-65 years old. Those staying will include acute assessment patients, planned detox and Ministry of Defence. The ward is a mixed unit.
