Welcome to Algebra, Functions, & Data Analysis (AFDA) with Ms. Toms!
“What is AFDA?”In the AFDA course, students will build upon Algebra I level topics through modeling real-world problems and diving deeper into the topics. Students will utilize previous knowledge of linear and quadratic functions to problem solve and reason through problems and activities.
Topics covered will include linear, quadratic, absolute value, piecewise, exponential and logarithmic functions; domains, ranges, zeros, transformations, and end behavior; square roots and cube roots; and the process for creating an effective survey and how to analyze and present data acquired. AFDA students will earn one math credit after passing the course. There is no SOL for this course.
“What does the content look like each quarter?”
Quarter 1: Quarter 3:
-Solving and Graphing Linear -Solving and Graphing Exponential
Equations and Inequalities and Logarithmic Functions
-Solving and Graphing Absolute -Function Families
Value and Piecewise Functions -Statistics
Quarter 2: Quarter 4:
-Factoring Quadratic Equations -Percentiles and Inverse Norm
-Solving and Graphing Quadratic -Surveys and Graphs
Functions -Exponents and Radicals
“What is Ms. Toms’ Grading Policy?”
Common AFDA Grading Policy
Summative Assessments will be 90% of the total grade per quarter. The summative assignments will be broken down into three sections:
