PTAG Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 9:31 am.

Minutes were approved by Katy Beck and Seconded by Crystal Moore.

The Executive Board introduced themselves (Amber Larsen, President; Emily Kamp, 1st VP; Cat Markham, 2nd VP; Brenna DuBois, Co-Treasurer; and Rebecca Repke, Co-Treasurer)

Amber Larsen talked about the Jog-a-thon. It was a huge success. Parents, teachers, volunteers, and students had a great time. The Jog-a-Thon ran very smoothly. It had many volunteers who were a big part in making it such a great success. She thanked the two coordinators Bianca Woodberry and Brenna DuBois.

Brenna DuBois shared Jog-a-Thon details. We raised $52,000 for our school that is more than we made last year on our fundraiser. We also had corporate sponsorship that equaled $8,750.00. She was very pleased with how well it ran and all of the support that it received from both JWE staff and volunteers. She then gave the treasurer’s report. The ending balance in September is $56,552.71. The balance does not reflect the Jog-a-Thon.

Stacy Butterfield spoke on the Jog-a-Thon. She said that JWE took a risk and she realized it was scary because it had not been done before, but we committed and it was a success. What a great message to send district wide. She also let us know 3rd through 5th grade writing tests have to be reread. She went over some of testing details and answered questions. She answered the question of our rapidly growing school and said they are very aware and looking at long range plans. She also encouraged everyone to go vote.

Suzanne Lair was very pleased with the Jog-a-Thon and how excited the students were when they received their dots for their laps. She is very excited about it helping to promote a healthy lifestyle. She mentioned that Stacey Butterfield is a celebrity runner in the Tulsa Run. They will be taking a group of 10 staff members, JWE students, and parents to participate in the Tulsa Run. They will be wearing their Jog-a-Thon t-shirts. She stated those who have not signed up can still join the JWE group. Jenks joggers started on Tuesday after school for 3rd and 4th grade and is led by Shelly Egli. Parents are encouraged to walk/run with them. They will soon be expanding it to grades K-2. Questions over testing were answered.

Angela Hobson spoke briefly on the testing guidelines. Parent teacher/conferences are next week. Angela shared the process that they go through and how they have data team meetings. In these meetings they examine students’ strengths and areas where we could give students more support. She encouraged us to meet with our teachers and ask the in-depth questions.

Bianca Spoke on the Jog-a-Thon and the journey it has been. She thanked everyone who helped. They will be posting corporate sponsors addresses to PTAG website so we can thank them.

Nancy Rivers reported we have received a total of 28,314 box tops. Contest ends on October 15.

Niki Erwin spoke about Square 1 art. She said all classes turned in artwork. We will receive sticker order forms on October 24. The order forms will be due back on November 1.

Darla Koetter talked about foundation baskets. The wrap date will be in November and the event will take place on February 28. She encouraged us to attend.

Amy Vargus spoke about PLAC. She encouraged everyone to join the email and Facebook page. She also invited them to attend the meetings so they can become educated on the issues we are facing.

Amber Larsen (speaking for Dawn Sponsler who was unable to attend) spoke about new fall Spirit wear. Orders will be coming home soon.

Emily Kamp reminded us of Fall Party dates and food regulations.

Allison Stephens spoke about Flu shot and caring van volunteer opportunities.

Amber Larsen thanked everyone for coming to the meeting.

Emily Kamp made the motion to adjourn and Alison Stephens seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 10:54 am.
