RACE 1 – TASMANIAN MEDICAL LABORATORIES STAKES – 1680 METRES

Pre-race swab samples were taken from LORD CYRIOLI.

In the score up on the first occasion JIMMY DE PANDA broke and was out of position. Shortly before release point WILL HAMISH broke and LORD CYRIOLI which was drawn on that geldings back was then not able to get into position and the starter called a false start. Connections have been advised that WILL HAMSIH has been placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.

In the score up on the second occasion JIMMY DE PANDA again broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. The gelding then raced rough at the start. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed out of the draw for future mobile start events. The gelding which then broke free of interference racing down the back straight on the final occasion has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

ACEY BOY after racing outside the leader then tired. The gelding underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Driver Tim Yole explained that the gelding was unsuited by the evenly run tempo over the race distance.

LIZ GRANT which raced at the rear of the field before then tiring underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Connections have been advised that the mare has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

RACE 2 – 6TY MEASURED FORM AND FUNCTION STAKES – 2200 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer Brooke Hammond who advised that STREZLECKI WILDONE had an elevated temperature and was unfit to start, stewards ordered the mares withdrawal at 11:02am. STREZLECKI WILDONE has been stood down from racing for a period of 28 days which may be varied upon production of a vets certificate as to the reasons for the scratching.

In the score up MUSTANG MINTY broke and as a result LIVIA DEGEROLSTEIN was checked and a false start was called. In the score up on the second occasion MUSTANG MINTY again broke inconveniencing LIVIA DEGEROLSTEIN and a second false start was called. MUSTANG MINTY was then scratched by order of stewards at 7:34pm with all monies wagered on the mare to be refunded. Connections were advised that MUSTANG MINTY has been placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.

LIVIA DEGERLOSTEIN which after being inconvenienced in two consecutive false starts then broke shortly after the start has been placed on its last chance in the draw for future mobile start events. The mare underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

BERTILS BLISS pulled hard.

Stewards inquired into an incident racing around the home turn which BERTILS BLISS (Dylan Ford) was inconvenienced. After taking evidence from drivers Lee Simmonds (SIDURI), Duncan Dornauf (KAMILI) and Dylan Ford, it was established that SIDURI made a three wide move passing the 400 metres to the outside of the tiring SUM ONE. KAMILI was able to then shift out into the one out line, BERTILS BLISS which was racing to the outside of SIDURI was hanging in and then had to be checked away from SIDURI. Stewards also queried Mr Ford as to his driving tactics in this event in particular as to the reason for him not improving his position racing down the back on the final occasion when the tempo of the race had slowed. Evidence was also given from trainer Heath Szczypka. Mr Ford stated that although they went down the back in 32 seconds, he was of the view that having driven BERTILS BLISS on numerous occasions that the mare is only capable of a short sprint and was of the view that his best option was to obtain a trail into the race from the 400 metres. The mare hung in whilst racing wide on the home turn before then making up some late ground. Stewards noted the explanations of Mr Ford and Mr Szczypka.

Stewards queried trainer Brooke Hammond as to performance of SUM ONE which after racing outside the leader and pulling hard then tired over the concluding stages. Ms Hammond explained that in her view the mare had choked down during the running of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Connections have been advised that SUM ONE has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Post-race swab samples were taken from KAMILI the winner of the event.

RACE 3 – MCKILLOP INSURANCE BROKERS PACE – 2200 METRES

BUMBLE DON pulled hard whilst racing three wide throughout the event. Driver Gareth Rattray explained that he had attempted to restrain the gelding in the early stages however the gelding continued to pull hard and he was then left with no option but to attempt to rate the gelding as he was of the view that the position outside the leader was not available. Stewards accepted Mr Rattray’s explanation.

Driver Keith Toulmin (RAINBOW PHOENIX) was reprimanded under AR 156(3)(b) for his excessive whip action.

RACE 4 – ROBERTS SINCE 1865 PACE – 2200 METRES

MY BROS DREAMING pulled hard whilst leading the event.

JUFFS CROSSING which broke after the start will continue to be placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.

COOL WHARTON was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn.

PEACE CORPS NZ was held up for clear racing room in the home straight before then obtaining an inside run close to the finishing post.

COOL WHARTON was unable to obtain a clear run over the concluding stages.

MR BROS DREAMING hung out under pressure close to the finishing line.

Stewards queried trainer/driver Troy Hillier as to the performance of ROBYN SCHERBOTSKY NZ which performed below market expectations in tonight’s event. Mr Hillier was at a loss to explain the mares poor performance, adding that the mare after beginning well had enjoyed a good run throughout the race however failed to make any ground when put into the race. Mr Hillier also stated that racing around the home turn the mare was driven along to maintain its position in the one out, one back trail. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. Mr Hillier has advised that he would now have blood samples taken from the mare and would notify Stewards of the results.

Post-race swab samples were taken from MY BROS DREAMING the winner of the event.

RACE 5 – MITAVITE PACE – 2200 METRES

Pre-race swab samples were taken from JOHNNYART.

The start of this event was slightly delayed due to a Gloucester Park harness race running behind schedule.

CYRILFROMTHEPOCKET was fractious before the start and delayed the start as a consequence. The gelding then swung sideways at the start as the tapes were released inconveniencing LITTLE JETHRO. Connections have been advised that CYRILFROMTHEPOCKET has now been placed out of the draw for future standing start events.

JOHNNYART which galloped out will continue to be placed out of the draw for future standing start events. The gelding then pulled hard whilst racing outside the leader and tired over the concluding stages.

PUT MBACK which galloped out has been placed out of the draw for future standing start events.

VIEW STREET pulled hard whilst racing in a trailing position.

VIEW STREET was held up rounding the home turn.

RACE 6 – LEES ORCHARD STAKES – 2200 METRES

The start of this event was delayed by four minutes due to Gloucester Park harness race running behind schedule.

Prior to the event trainer Ben Yole advised that STONETHACHRISTION would look to be driven forward from his favourable draw. A public announcement was made to that effect. The gelding was driven accordingly.

TRIED AND TRUE hung in rounding the home turn. Driver Peter Dornauf was reprimanded under AR 156(3)(b) for his excessive whip action.

Driver James Johnson (CHIEF DESTROYER) was reprimanded under AR 156(3)(b) for his excessive whip action.

RACE 7 – PARRY PROPERTY PACE – 2200 METRES

Pre-race swab samples were taken from PRISONER and BERRI DAMOUR.

The start of this event was delayed to a Gloucester Park harness race running behind schedule.

There were no racing incidents during this event.

GENERAL

Due to the late on course arrival of the club veterinary surgeon Race 1 was rescheduled to start at 7:07pm with Race 2 rescheduled to start at 7:28pm.

Devonport Harness Racing Club – 13th April 2015 – Race 3

Stewards concluded an inquiry into an incident racing into the back straight the first time in which ROBERT MOREAU raced ungenerously. After taking evidence from drivers Taylor Ford (ROBERT MOREAU) and James Johnson (ODINS CALL GIRL), Stewards reminded Mr Johnson of his obligations when shifting ground and also reminded Miss Ford of her obligations when trailing.
