REGENTS BIOLOGY EXPECTATIONS MR. KENNY
1. MATERIALS:
A. Students are expected to attend class with their textbook, notebook, pen and pencil.
B. A set of magic markers and index cards (for vocabulary) will be helpful.
2. CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
A. Students will be in class and seated by the time class begins.
B. Students exhibiting inappropriate behavior during class or lab period will not be allowed to participate and will receive a zero for that class or lab.
C. No passes will be given during a class except for emergencies.
(If a medical condition exists a Doctor’s note can exempt a student from this expectation)
D. Students will remain in their seats for the entire class period unless otherwise instructed. Sharpen pencils before class begins; throw out all trash at the end of class.
3. GRADING PROCEDURES:
A. An evaluation is based on 100% and will be broken down into the following percentages.
· TESTS/ QUIZZES = 70%
· LAB REPORTS = 20%
· PREPARATION = 10%
B. The test/quiz average will be based on the total points for all tests and quizzes earned by the student and the total number points that were allowed for that quarter.
C. The lab grade is an average of all lab reports for the quarter.
D. The preparation grade is an average of all other work that has prepared the student for tests and lab activities. (Homework, class work, worksheets, etc.)
4. HOMEWORK:
A. All homework is due at the beginning of class on the assigned date and will not be accepted after two days.
B. All late homework will lose 20 points a day.
C. If a student is absent from class or lab, it is the students responsibility to make up missed work, notes and labs.
5. LABORATORYS:
A. LAB ASSIGNMENTS:
· NEW YORK REQUIRES THAT EACH STUDENT MUST COMPLETE 30 SATISFACTORY LAB HOURS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE REGENTS EXAM.
· This does not necessarily mean 30 lab reports. It could mean more or even fewer reports than 30 write-ups. It will depend on the course and the teacher.
B. Lab reports must be completed be the following class session unless otherwise instructed and will not be accepted two days after that date.
Late lab reports will lose twenty points a day.
C. By the end of ten weeks each student must have at least fifteen hours of acceptable lab reports on file.
D. Class attendance is extremely important. Students that are absent from class or lab is responsible for all work that was missed. Be prepared to stay during your free time or after school your first day back to make up a lab you may have missed.
6. You will be expected to keep a notebook with a note section and handout section. You will have an open notebook quiz once a quarter.
