Eight Expectations for Living:

We will value one another as unique and special individuals.

We will not laugh at or make fun of a person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or put-downs.

We will use good manners, saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” and allow others to go first.

We will cheer each other to success.

We will help one another whenever possible.

We will recognize every effort and applaud it.

We will encourage each other to do our best.

We will practice virtuous living, using the Life Principles

Classroom Creed

We the fifth and sixth grade class at St. PaulLutheranSchool will remain faithful always to our God.

We have great expectations of ourselves.

We accept the challenge to become the best that we can be.

We will begin all challenges with optimism, rather than doubt.

The education we receive today will make us the leaders of tomorrow.

We the fifth and sixth grade class at St. PaulLutheranSchool will remain faithful always to our God.

Routines and Procedures:

Students must be in their seats by 8:00A.M.

Journals: Most mornings we will begin our day with journals. Journals are meant to develop writing fluency, while still encouraging creativity. I have incorporated math problems as well as some logic puzzles that will be completed in journals as well. Journals are a wonderful way to begin each school day and establishes a routine each morning. Journals will NOT be counted towards any specific subject area, but students will be expected to complete each Journal assignment on a given day.

Memory work will take place every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

All work must be handed in, completed, before school starts every morning.

Late Work:

  • Students will have one day to complete any late work. The grade on this assignment will be lowered one grade.
  • Any paper that is turned in after one day will be counted as a zero.

Missing Work due to an illness: Students will have 2 days to complete missing assignments if they are absent because of an illness.

Example:

Sick Monday------All work due Wednesday

Sick Tuesday------All work due Thursday

Sick Wednesday------All work due Friday

Sick Thursday------All work due Monday

Sick Friday------All work due Monday

Prolonged illness of a student will be handled by parents, students, and teacher to come up with a legitimate time of completion for all missing work.

“Our goal is to get as much work done at school as we can.”

Consequences:

Any behavioral or academic problems will be handled within our classroom. If situations do persist, then I will be in contact with parents to correct the situation. Pink slips can be given after three incidents have occurred in one week. Incidents can be behavioral or academic, and can be given by any faculty member.

Step 1: verbal warning

Step 2: meeting between student and teacher

Step 3: contact parent at home or work

It is going to take a bit of time for students to get acquainted with routines and procedures, but let me inform you that it will get easier for them. Please feel free to contact me and set up a time for us to sit down and discuss any situation, or feel free to email me, too. Email has really worked well for me in the past because I check it everyday. Don’t hesitate to contact me.

Encouraging Words:

Here are a few encouraging messages from former and current students of mine that have been through my class.

“Mr. Garcia is a funny teacher and we laugh a lot in his class.”

“Mr. Garcia’s class taught me discipline, responsibility, and gave me self-confidence in my work. His class also helped my reading habits and developed new writing skills.”

“There are some rumors about Mr. Garcia, but they are not true. He is a great teacher.”

“Fifth and Sixth Grade is fun. You will grow socially in Mr. Garcia’s class. You will learn to get along and work together with your classmates and most of all, have Christ’s love in your heart.”

“I thought Mr. Garcia would be a lot meaner than he was, but I found out that he is very nice once you get to know him. He is my favorite teacher now.”

“Mr. Garcia is one of my best teachers I have ever had. He may be tough on us sometimes, but you learn life lessons from all he does.”
