October Newsletter 2012
Can you believe how quickly the new term is going we are nearly at holiday time again! We are really pleased with the hall refurbishment over the summer break. The new lights and fresh paint make the hall brighter while the extra insulation will be a real benefit over winter. If you’ve not been through yet have a look at the kitchen upgraded too over the summer– much more storage and a brand new back door that doesn’t leak when it rains!
It’s great to welcome new children and Mums to the playgroup after the summer break. We hope your children have settled into playgroup/2’s group/toddlers and really enjoy being here. We must organise a Mum’s night out soon to let everyone get to know each other (any excuse – Chinese anyone?). We try to let everyone know what is going on in playgroup, 2’s group and Toddlers with plenty of notice about upcoming events but as a reminder you can access up to date information on the playgroups web site:
Or alternatively our facebook page, search “Mearns pre-school playgroup” and click , to get updates – it can be useful for reminders of events and looking ahead to winter things like snow closure days plus you can post questions and queries there if you forget to ask about something when actually at playgroup!
Fordoun Gala
Rather disappointingly we were rained off early at the gala this year. But thank you to anyone who baked, donated, set out, cleared up, and turned up to man the stall. Thank you too to those who turned up to enjoy the gala and supported the stall by buying the baking, lucky dip and guess the anniversary and lucky lolly games. We raised £ 117.
Rag Bags Collection
This took place on September 14th we had a huge pile of bags-a record collection of 204kg! Thank you to everyone for going through drawers, cupboards and wardrobes looking for items no longer required. We raised a huge £130 our biggest ever total.
2’s group
We are delighted to welcome back Gillian from her maternity leave. Two’s group has restarted after the summer break on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The room is currently being decorated with the childrens art work (butterflies and flowers) but during the Octoberbreak the small hall will be refurbished renewing lighting and increasing insulation levels as was done in the main hall over summer so that hopefully for our winter term the 2’s group will be as cosy as the older children in the playgroup hall!
Christmas shopping night -23rd November
Get out of the cold and take a chance to get some presents early. The Christmas shopping night is an ideal chance to fill up on stocking fillers and presents then have a sit down with mulled wine and a mince pie. Entry is £2 (which includes your wine and pie!) there will also be a raffle and other fund raisers on the night. Volunteers to help with selling raffle tickets, taking door payments, and serving of teas/coffee and wine also needed.
Playgroup Focus
This terms playgroup focus is outdoor learning and we are looking at ways to create and develop our outdoor area for the children. We want it to be a fun stimulating and educational place where the children can safely explore and learn and experience so many areas and outcomes of the curriculum for excellence.
Parental involvement is also a big theme for this year. If you have any talents or lets face it are just better than a 4yr old at something – you are perfect to help! The activity can be anything from baking, arty/crafty, bringing in pets to visit, sciency things, gardening/planting, musical or even reading stories together – the kids just love having a parent (thats right cause if Dads are able to come in they are welcome too!) in to share what they are doing. Please speak to Marie if you feel you can volunteer to help in any way – it doesn’t have to be a regular commitment either any time you can manage is appreciated.
Thank you
