Bob,
a couple of people have asked me about rumors going around that there will soon be a change in procedure with regard to who can provide a chimney affidavit when needed. Is there any truth to this? Can you comment on this?

For LAA’s, a LOBI or PE must submit a chimney letter or have a PE or RA submit one.
I expect the new code requirement to be: For schedule C jobs, if the chimney has a lining, the LMP or LOBI or PE or RA of record may sign the chimney statement on the back of the schedule C. If it is not signed, the a special inspector must submit the chimney inspection report.
For an unlined masonry chimney firing gas (firebrick construction), a special inspector must be hired for the inspection.
