SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT

Parents, please be aware that you may request and the school will provide in a timely manner, information regarding the professional qualifications of your student’s classroom teachers including:

· Whether the teacher has met state qualifications and criteria for the grade and subjects taught;

· Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status where state criteria have been waived;

· The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other degrees held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree;

· Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

Hokes Bluff Middle School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

School Responsibilities

Hokes Bluff Middle School will:

1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

· Follow the Alabama Course of Study for each discipline taught.

· Integrate the instructional program to meet the needs of each child.

· Implement special reinforcement activities that will make the learning process enjoyable; but allows the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards.

· HBMS will motivate students to participate in classroom discussions while providing a quiet but stimulating environment that allows the student to study without interruption.

2. Hold parent-teacher conferences to discuss an individual’s progress:

· We welcome parents to call, email, and schedule parent-teacher conferences as needed, and requested, throughout the school year to allow parents and teachers to communicate concerning student progress.

3. Provide parent(s) with their children’s progress:

· Progress reports are sent home after the 4th week of each nine week grading period.

· Report cards are sent home at the end of each nine weeks grading period.

4. Provide parent(s) with staff accessibility:

· Parents may call the school to be informed of the time of a teacher’s planning period. An appointment can be scheduled by the secretary or parents may leave a message asking the teacher for a return call.

5. Provide parent(s) opportunities to volunteer in their child’s class and observe classroom activities.

· At registration, parents are asked to join the PTSO where they may volunteer to serve in the classroom, library, etc.

· A parent may call the office, and the counselor will schedule a classroom observation upon request.

Parent Responsibilities

I want my child to reach his/her potential. I agree to provide a positive home atmosphere that encourages respect for each other and fosters a love for learning. Therefore, I will strive to the best of my ability to adhere to the responsibilities listed below:

· Monitoring attendance by ensuring that my child is punctual and attends school every day.

· Establish a consistent homework routine and set appropriate expectations for my child’s achievement.

· Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.

· Supporting the school in its effort to maintain proper discipline and s safe, orderly learning environment..

· Encourage my child’s efforts and establish a positive relationship with my child’s teachers by attending school functions such as Open House and Parent Conferences.

· Monitor my child’s amount of television and phone privilege during the school week.

· Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.

Student Responsibilities

I understand that an education is an important part of my journey toward adulthood. It will help me to become a stronger person, both mentally and physically. I am the one who has to do the work. With this in mind, I agree to do the following:

· Come to school each day with paper, pen, pencil, and other necessary tools for learning.

· Complete and return assignments.

· Observe regular study hours.

· Obey the rules of student conduct set forth by my school.

· Show respect to adults and classmates.

· Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
