Call to Worship

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Let our prayer be set forth before You as incense; and the lifting up of our hands as the evening sacrifice.

* Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven Trinity Hymnal № 77

*Prayer of Invocation and Thanksgiving

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.

Old Testament Reading Proverbs 24:23-34

These also are sayings of the wise. Partiality in judging is not good. Whoever says to the wicked, "You are in the right,"

will be cursed by peoples, abhorred by nations, but those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them. Whoever gives an honest answerkisses the lips.Prepare your work outside;get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house. Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips. Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me;I will pay the man back for what he has done." I passed by the field of a sluggard,by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns;the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down. Then I saw and considered it;I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber,a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber,

and want like an armed man.

*Praise Song We Will Glorify the King of Kings

We will glorify the King of kings
We will glorify the Lamb
We will glorify the Lord of lords
Who is the great I AM

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty
We will bow before His throne
We will worship Him in righteousness
We will worship Him alone

He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth
He is Lord of all who live
He is Lord of the universe
All praise to Him we give

O Hallelujah to the King of kings
Hallelujah to the Lamb
Hallelujah to the Lord of lords
Who is the great I AM

Unison Confession

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.

Jesus, Bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.

Jesus, Redeemer of the world, grant us peace. Amen.

From: Angus Dei, the oldest known Christian prayer.

Private Confession

Assurance of Pardon

The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. May the God of Mercy, who forgives us all our sins, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

Postlude

Sermon Notes

Introduction: A key thought: Jesus’ enemies accuse Him of being in league with the Devil. In this context, Jesus says that would mean the Devil and his followers are fighting each other. He closes with the teaching that this is “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.” Let’s look at this today.

1. Jesus’ Friends and Foes Attack Him – vs. 22

a.

b.

2. Jesus’ Excellent Response to His Critics – v. 23 – 27

a.

3. Jesus’ On Sin and the Unpardonable Sin – v. 28 – 30

Conclusion:

  1. A house divided cannot stand
  1. Hard heart and unbelief leads to eternal death

Welcome

Welcome to Covenant Presbyterian Church. We are a church that is resolved, as the Apostle Paul said, to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This means we are a community seeking to discover just how amazing the love of God is, as we see it in the Gospel.

We are glad you are here, and we hope that you will find that there is a place for you at CPC as we worship Christ together.

Please introduce yourself to us by filling in a Guest Card, which you should find in the pews in front of you. These cards simply help us to know who you are, and how we can best serve you.
