1. Job Description
REPORTS TO:Project Manager & Project Coordinator
RESPONSIBLE FOR:Meeting targets and outcomes as set by ULF and GMB
SALARY:£30,155.81
MAIN JOB PURPOSE:The development of effective, quality apprenticeship/traineeship schemes in GMB recognised workplaces. Organising and recruitment of young workers using GMB@Work principles.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To negotiate ‘Memorandums of Understanding’ with preferred learning providers and Learning Agreements with Employers
To provide support to GMB Workplace Organisers on Apprenticeships and Traineeship issues, encouraging the setting up of quality workplace schemes, with the support of specialist help, where required
To build a network of GMB apprenticeship members
To develop, build and maintain relationships with relevant external organisations e.g. LEP’s and SSC's
To workwith Branches and Officers to ensure information is shared on learning opportunities around apprenticeships and traineeships
To promote quality apprenticeship and traineeship schemes with GMB recognised employers
To represent the project where appropriate at GMB, Unionlearn and other external events
To organise own workload with the minimum of supervision to make effective use of time and work effectively as a member of a team
To identifygood practice on apprenticeship and traineeship issues. share those practices and develop appropriate case studies
To providenecessary data to the Project Coordinator for reporting purposes
To identify and undertake such training as may be agreed to be necessary, in order to progress and develop in areas of skill and competence which are relevant to the role in meeting the needs of the Region and its members
To support the GMB@Work agenda in all aspects of their work
To implement the Union’s policy on Equal Opportunities
2. Person Specification
A strong empathy with the trade union movement generally and the aims and objectives of GMB
A good understanding of GMB rules, organisation and structure
An understanding of the policies of the GMB, TUC and the Labour Party
A demonstrable knowledge of National Apprenticeship/Traineeship Strategies
A demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, including report writing and public speaking
Good communication and interpersonal skills; confident and highly motivated; able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
Good negotiation skills
Ability to foster collaboration with others in order to achieve agreed objectives and outcomes
Good IT and social media skills
Ability to travel throughout the Region, using own or public transport to attend and participate in meetings, conferences and other activities
3. Training and Development
- The Project Worker may be required to undertake training to improve their knowledge and skills to maintain a high standard of performance. The post-holder will also be encouraged to identify their own training needs.
4. Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- Knowledge of National Apprenticeship Strategies
- Knowledge of government Apprenticeship/Traineeships agenda
- Effective communication skills, including report writing and public speaking
- Full driving licence and own car
Desirable:
- Computer literacy
- Working effectively as part of a team
- GMB@Work representative training
