Meeting opened: / Russell Rigby opened the APPS Parents and Citizens (P&C) meeting at 7.05 pm on 13th December, 2016 in the Staff Room.In attendance: / Unity Taylor-Hill (Principal), Vicki Lambert, Lorraine Lythall, Russell Rigby, Grant Kepler, Mike Song, Mary O’neill Kate Kingsford Smith, Heidi Bryant, Troy Redwood, Keith Tan, Jalpa Joshi, Jenny Phillipson

Correspondence In/Out: / P& C Federation – regarding insurances for 2017
Principal’s Report:
(Mrs Unity Taylor-Hill) / 1. Children have transitioned well across two sites in the Foundation year.
2. Currently have 295 children for 2017. 7 Kindergarten classes. 16 classes in total. Two classes for children with additional needs (multi-cat classes).
3. A thank you to parents that helped on the teacher recruitment panels.
4. An induction afternoon was held today with the new teachers.
5. Student reports will go home tomorrow (14/12/16). From 2017 onwards the school reports will vary slightly. A to E - 5 point scale.
6. Teachers have been busy organising the Disco for Thurs night.
7. Term 1 – Children year 1 – 6 return Monday 30th Jan. Kindergarten doing Best Start on Mon to Wed.
8. Purchased soccer nets, Ball trolley to house all sports balls. Trays for lego. Trucks and outdoor kitchens.
9. Uniforms – Unity to get pricing for embroidery on the black jumper option, and a grey trouser tailored option for the girls. And also regarding the hats and finding stiffer hat option that maintains it shape.
Presidents Report:
(Russell Rigby) / 1. Thank you for Mike and Harley for the BBQ hosted for the new parents of 2017.
2. Disco – Pizza and Sooper Doopers ordered.
3. Foundation Pins have been designed and ordered thanks to Wes Shaw and to be given out on Thursday night $5 each.
4. Quotes for a shade section on the upper section - $50k – possibly something to aim for in 2017.
5. Pre-Start picnic in St Leonards Park – Saturday morning prior to school starting.
6. Induction pack about the P&C
7. Formulate a P&C database with all parents contact details.
Treasurer Report:
(Mr Mike Song) / 1. The expected ending balance for 2016 is $6 – 7k including $5,000 being held in a high interest earning term deposit.
2. Income raised for 2016 - $23k.
3. Additional funding requests:
a. Approved the request for $2k for library books
b. Approved the funding for Lego for Steam
c. Approved the funding for chess pieces
General Matters: / 1. Jigsaw OOSH – Representative:Jackie - New OOSH Provider – 3 year contract. Currently working hard with the dept to try and implement the vacation care program. Suggestion for an elected position in the P&C that represents the OOSH families. A lot of hands on learning programs tailored to the children and the school. Important for families to return the application for their OOSH requirements for 2017. Ensuring that the school rules and expectations apply in the OOSH.
2. Community Room – Thanks to Jenny Phillipson for setting up the community room. Jenny to draft a submission to go into a 2017 Welcome Pack to parents to provide details on its purpose and location.
3. Road Safety Audit Update - Micheala Kemp, Manager, Traffic and Transport Operations of North Sydney Council wrote to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to request action on the matters within RMS' jurisdiction including installation of a 40km/h School Zone on Ernest St.
Council has written to APPS (email of 9 December 2016) outlining how they will address items within their responsibility such as changing parking signs, to accommodate our requests and marking "Look" stencils on the footpath to alert children to private driveways.
Grant spoke to Lindsay Menday of North Sydney's Sustainable Transport Coordinator and Lindsay is interested in helping us to implement a Safe Active Transport program at APPS, which they have recently piloted at North Sydney Demonstration School.
Grant Kepler and Unity Taylor-Hill will meet with Gladys Berejikilian on Friday 16 December 2016 to discuss our concerns around safely walking to school.
Russell Rigby, President of the P&C, met with our Federal MP, Trent Zimmerman, in Canberra recently to brief him on our pedestrian safety concerns around our new school.
Representatives of our state and federal MPs will be present at the NS Council Traffic Committee meeting, scheduled for Friday 10 February 2017. Grant Kepler will represent APPS at this meeting.
