Odysseus’ Resume and

Cover Letter Assignment

Odysseus is applying for the position of “Ancient Greek Hero” and has asked you for help in drafting a resume and cover letter for the application. A resume is a specially formatted list of jobs or activities that you have participated in that show that you are a good match for a job. A cover letter is where you explain why you are a good fit for a job based on your resume. Almost every job that you apply for requires a resume and cover letter so this is a good opportunity for you to learn how to write both of them.

Part 1: The Resume (50 points)

For the purpose of Odysseus’ resume we are going to have a list of obstacles that he has overcome (such as They Cyclops’ Cave, The Sirens Songs, A Journey to Hades, etc) instead of jobs or activities. A resume has the following parts and should be formatted like the examples provided:

· Name

· Contact Information (address, email address, phone number, etc)

· Schools attended and grades received

· Honors received (optional)

· Jobs or activities (in this case it will be Obstacles Overcome)

o A short, but specific description (2-3 sentences) of the obstacle and how it was overcome

· Skills

Obviously you do not know all this information about Odysseus so you will need to make some of it up. Be creative and show what you do know about Odysseus to help make up your answers (for example you may not know his address but you do know he lives in Troy).

Your resume needs to be neatly written and formatted like the examples provided for you.
