Collection of Old Stamps

Paul has taken another large box of stamps to The Leprosy Mission: the mission gained a great deal of money last year from the sale of stamps (see the church notice board for the news letter). Please save ALL your stamps, common British and all foreign, in singles or in stamp albums – all are valuable to the Mission. Please cut the stamps from your envelopes, leaving about a quarter of an inch of paper all round, and hand to either Diane or Paul Charman. Thank you very much for your valued help.

Table Top Sale at Church – Book a table for £5

Spring is approaching us once again, so why not start your Spring Cleaning for the Table top sale on 2nd March 2013. It may not be a large amount but every little helps! Please support the church by having a table and asking family and friends to come along – all the money raised will go towards church funds. Get in touch with Chris and book a table ahead of the sale on Saturday, March 2nd. Thank you - Chris English.

BLOG IN THE BLANK

Happy Birthday Pilgrims Way! Today we celebrate our Church Anniversary and have come bearing gifts! We offer a warm welcome to Stuart whom we have invited to lead our worship this morning - and we look forward to sharing lunch together afterwards!

It may seem strange to be having a party at the beginning of Lent - but it seems to me that there are some parallels between our celebrations today and the experience of Jesus in the wilderness. Birthdays and anniversaries are a time to look back and remember –to look back on our journey so far and to dream dreams about what we still want to achieve or experience before we die. I think that Jesus spent these forty days and night thinking about those same questions. He must have remembered what he was told about the circumstances of his birth – and he took this time out in order to make important decisions about who he was and what the future direction of his life would be.

My Russian friends say that they often have a kind of crisis period in the run-up to their birthday each year. They are suddenly filled with doubts and despair about the meaning of their life. However, once they reach their birthday they find themselves again and are able to move forward in faith and hope. It was this same kind of crisis that Jesus experienced in the wilderness.

Our Church Anniversary is a time for us to struggle again as a congregation with those important questions about who we are and what our calling is. It is a time for us to give thanks for the wonderful history of Pilgrims Way – and to think seriously together about who we are today and what God is calling us to do and be tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to you. To Jesus be true.

May God’s richest blessings abide upon you.

NICOLA VIDAMOUR
