FROM THE EDITOR
For those of you still receiving the Garden Dirt by mail, and if you have email, we encourage you to try printing your copy of the Garden Dirt yourself. Why? Because then you will get to see the issue in full color and you will receive it sooner. The printed version has to be printed and then sent to the company that puts it together for us. It is mailed bulk mail, which is the cheapest way but also the slowest way. However, once the issue is completed, it can be emailed electronically to you the same time it is sent to the printer. Open it as a Word document or as a PDF document. PDF format is better because the document stays true in that the pages line up correctly. This isn’t always the case with Word. If you do not have Adobe Reader, which you will need to view the issue in PDF format, you can download it free at:
To print in PDF format:
Click on File>Print
Under Page Size & Handling, choose “Booklet”
Under Booklet Subset – Choose “print both sides” if your printer is capable of automatically printing on both sides;
If it cannot, then choose “print front side only” (you will manually have to load the printed pages into your printer to print the back side).
Under Orientation, choose “Portrait”
Check “Auto-rotate pages within each sheet”
Leave sheet pages 1 of 6 (for 24 pages) or however many it says
If your printer does not automatically print both sides, when finished printing the front side, in most cases you will insert the printed pages into the printer just as they came out of the printer; i.e., printed side up. Do not rotate or they may print upside down.
To print in Word format:
Click on File>Print and then choose “Page Set Up”
Under Margins>Pages>Multiple Pages choose “Book fold”
Under Sheets per Booklet, choose “24” (or as many pages in the issue) or “All”
Under Settings, choose “Print All Pages”
If your printer is capable of automatically printing both sides, Choose “Print Both Sides” and “Flip on Short Edge”
If your printer does not automatically print both sides, Choose “Manually Print on Both Sides and Reload paper when prompted to print second side”. In most instances, you will insert the printed pages back into your printer the same way they came out (printed side up). Do not rotate the pages or they’ll print upside down.
