Bene RIYA swivel chair wins silver at Focus Open 2014
Wien/Waidhofen an der Ybbs, 28.10.2014: RIYA wins another award: The Bene swivel chair, designed by PearsonLloyd, wins silver at Focus Open 2014. Focus Open is the international design prize awarded by the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The swivel chair, which has already won numerous prizes, scores with its unique design and intuitive handling. RIYA adapts to the user’s body and encourages movement around the different zones and areas of the open office.

RIYA is awarded silver at Focus Open 2014
Companies and professional designers from all over the world were invited to participate with their current products in the Focus Open / International Design Prize Baden-Württemberg competition. The award is given to manufacturers and designers for outstanding design achievement. RIYA was awarded the premium prize "Focus in Silver" in the "Object" category from 230 submitted products in 17 categories. The top-class jury selected 35 winners for the silver category from all submissions, awarding outstanding design achievement.
The jury was specifically excited about the novel design of RIYA. The time when a chair served as a status symbol in the office with respect to hierarchy is long gone. Today, social and emotional qualities are more important. RIYA embodies this “human touch”: Adaptive, comfortable and versatile, RIYA makes a confident statement with its unique language of form.
The renowned competition has a long tradition and is highly esteemed both nationally and internationally. The awards ceremony took place in cooperation with the City of Ludwigburg on the 26th September 2014. Awarded products are shown for several weeks in an exhibition in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart.
RIYA – Recipient of many awards
The current award at the Focus Open 2014 - Silver has once again confirmed Bene's design quality. RIYA has now received seven awards: It has already been successful at the FX Design Awards 2013, at the German Design Award 2014, the Interior Innovation Award 2014, the Good Design Award, the iF product design award 2014 and the Design Guild Mark 2014.
RIYA – The charming chair
With its rounded forms, the friendly design of RIYA is setting new standards that contrast with the predominantly cold appearance of swivel chairs. The control elements have an appealing and clear design: They intuitively make sense on a tactile as well as visual level and are easy to operate. Each element is assigned a specific function.
“In our work, we want to question the overwhelmingly technoid aesthetic that dominates office spaces,” designer Tom Lloyd explains. “RIYA is the result of this continuous design process. With its deliberately open and appealing design, RIYA can be used in the entire office: at classic workstations as well as in collaborative zones or informal touch-down areas. The design of the control elements is intuitively easy and clear. RIYA fulfils all of the technical requirements and still manages to be inviting and friendly.”
