The following information was sent to Elizabeth Masden at Marathon on October 10, 2014: Trees trimmed back along the east side of our building, painting a small storage barn, hauling excess stuff out of our facility, assist in re-aligning concrete parking markers, painting exterior doors, handrails, cleaning up around the dumpster, assist in installing the handi-cap parking signs in the parking area, installing a dryer vent, sealing picnic tables.
Provide us a calendared listing of fundraising activities that is currently scheduled – where you are needing/wanting more volunteers?
- 03-10-15: We have a Monical’s Pizza Fund Raiser in Robinson.
- We usually schedule a fish fry fund raiser in the spring, but we have not decided on the date.
- We are in the process of discussing other possible fund raisers, but no decisions have been made as of yet.

Lincoln Trails Council, BSA
Agency Request
- From a volunteer standpoint, please provide us with a list of activities (whether it’s building, mentoring, cleaning, painting, stocking, teaching, or even if you are wanting/needing to create a fund raising event and you simply need the support to get one started, etc…) that your agency is needing/wanting completed? - The Redhawk District of the Lincoln Trails Council, BSA, has three needs from a volunteer standpoint both having to do with fundraising.
- Part of our districts annual fundraising activities included a campaign called Friends of Scouting. This is a three part campaign focusing on the community, the families of the Scouts, and top level Scouting volunteers. The district handles the family and volunteer part of the campaign “in house” through the use of existing volunteers that make sure that this happens. Our need is for a widening of the community campaign in the Crawford County area. A team needs to be developed that would compile a list of business and individuals in the community that would be asked to make a donation to help support the district and council. The term that is used for this type of campaign is called “IC5.” The goal would be to have members of the team ask only five people each to help support Scouting. The number of team members will depend on the number of prospects that are compiled in development of the list. At one time, the Crawford County area had a team that made sure this happened but those volunteers have moved on to other responsibilities or out of the area.
- Sporting Clays Special Event Fundraiser – every fall, either in Late August or September, the Lincoln Trails Council along with the Prairielands Council in Champaign hosts a sporting clays event at the Olde Barn Sporting Clays in Oakland. This is a council wide event with teams and sponsors coming from all 13 counties across the council. The Redhawk District has been challenged to add to this effort by developing a committee to focus on our area. Volunteers are needed to sit on the committee and to help identify sponsors and teams to participate at the event. This event raises between $10,000-15,000 to support the general operating budget of the council. We would like to see the event expand to raise an additional $10,000 or more. Volunteers do not need to have an understanding of the sport just a desire to help Scouting grow in our communities.
- Camp Cards (discount card) – the council hosts a spring fundraiser to allow Scouts to raise money to pay their own way to summer camp. This will be our third year doing this fundraiser. The cards are sold for $10 and the Scouts keep half, while the council takes the other half to pay for the expenses of the fundraiser along with provided needed support to the council general operating budget. A committee would be needed to visit local businesses in the county to ask if they would be willing to put their business on the card as we would like to develop one for the Crawford County area only. Currently we have two cards in the district for Scouts to choose to sell. One is for Coles County and the other is for Clark County. There is no cost to the business to participate other than honoring the discount when the card in provided. They would sign an agreement stated they would do so and provide the information on the discount they would offer. The council handles the production and distribution of the cards to the units and Scouts.

Myself and Mistie, our advocate, are the only staff in the Robinson office. Because of this we have not planned any fundraising activities for the near future. We recently held a softball tournament in Lawrenceville, which was chosen because just the two of us with a few volunteers could manage the work load associated with the event. There is a possibility that we may have another softball tournament in Flat Rock in the spring, but that is only in the discussion stage.
We would love to have some help putting together a fundraising event, but I am not sure what kind or where to start. We are open to suggestions from anyone with fundraising experience.
We are waiting on the hospital to put a new floor in our family waiting room. Once the new floor is in, we have funds budgeted for new furniture and some general sprucing up. Mistie also needs her office painted.
Our interviewing room is furnished with whatever used furnishings we could gather at the time we opened 5 years ago. We would appreciate help with updating the décor and furnishings in the interviewing room.

Ramblin’ Rose is the program in which we look for volunteers to help us. It would be helping people sign in, helping them “shop” to they get the correct type of supplies per grade level and clothing on the bus. It would also be talking with the people and getting the stories from them about how RR helps them.
