CLASS TITLE:HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLANNER

This is work preparing and updating a statewide comprehensive historic preservation plan for the state.

- Prepares and updates the Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan.
- Assists in preparing the Annual Work Program and required periodic reports outlining federal grant requests of a given fiscal year.
- Confers with the Department of the Interior, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other federal agencies to secure and fully utilize federal aid in pursuing the state's preservation program.
- Compiles and submits required forms and legal documents for individual projects.
- Accumulates data on specific preservation projects, prepares project guidelines, and formulates contractual agreements of survey, acquisition, and development.
- Coordinates historic and architectural development of selected sites.
- Inspects historic sites throughout the state to ensure that development, maintenance, and utilization guidelines are being adhered to in accordance with the legal agreements required by federal law.
- Prepares required project reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of the design and research procedures of historic sites and buildings.
- Knowledge of report writing techniques.
- Knowledge of historic preservation and restoration techniques.
- Knowledge of survey research methods.
- Ability to present information in an organized fashion.
- Ability to conduct surveys and research on historical sites to determine their importance and validity.
- Ability to analyze and interpret legal documents.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in history, architectural history, architecture, anthropology, archaeology or urban planning and one year of experience in historic preservation, or in any of the above fields; or
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university in history, architectural history, architecture, anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or urban planning.
