1. A volunteer fire fighter has a tall transmitter on the roof of his house to amplify the range of his CB radio. The fire fighter’s house has a height of 35 feet. If the angle of elevation to the tip of the transmitter from a point 35 feet from the house is 600, what is the height of the transmitter?
Give your answer in feet and inches.
2. A couple planning to elope, needs an extension ladder tall enough to reach the second floor, 20 feet from the ground. If the ladder has an angle of elevation of 440 to the window, how long must the ladder be? Give your answers in feet and inches.
3. The owners of the beautiful Tan-Tar-A in the lake of the Ozarks want to build a bridge over one of their smallest lakes (some may call it a pond). To get bids from contractors they need to estimate the width of the lake. So they measured 830 ft straight out from point A on the lake and then measure an angle of 430 to get to a point B opposite point A. Find the length of the bridge they are going to build.
Give your answers in feet and inches.
4. A radar station is tracking the path of a satellite at an angle of elevation of 210. If the line of sight distance is 2723 miles, what is the altitude of the satellite? Give your answer in miles and feet.
5. A pilot approaching the airport for a landing sees a traffic helicopter below at an angle of 110. If the line of sight distance is 5340 feet, what is the difference in altitude of the two aircraft?
Give your answer in feet and inches.
6. Rafael Furcal fields a batted ball a third of the way between 2nd and 3rdand 40 feet off the baseline connecting 2nd and 3rd. He fields the ball with his back parallel to the first base line. What angle must he turn his shoulders to throw the ball to first base? Also how far did the ball travel when Rafael threw it?Give your answer in degrees and feet and inches.
7. The blades of a pair of scissors are 6 inches in length from their intersection. If the opening from the point of one blade to the point of the other measures 8 inches, find the angle of measurement at the point of intersection of the blades. Give your answer to the nearest tenth of a degree.
8. A tree struck by lightning is partially broken and bent over, touching the ground. How tall was the tree before it was struck by lightning, if the tree split at an angle of 780 and the stump is 2 and a half feet tall?
9. From eye level 5 feet off the ground and 20 feet away from the flagpole, a person has to look up at a 400 angle to see the top of the pole. How tall is the pole? Give your answer in feet and inches.
10. The pilot of an airplane wants to calculate the amount of time it will take to land from his current position. The pilot starts its descent from an altitude of 3000 feet, flying at 190 ft/s. The plane is headed toward the runway at an angle of 60. Find how long it will be until touchdown. Give answer in seconds and drawr me a beautiful picture.
11. Geo the honey bee makes her honey comb out of regular hexagons with side lengths of 5mm. Find the width of one of Geo’s hexagons. Geo will sting you if you give her a decimal answer.
12. A rhombus has diagonal of length 4 and 10. Make a sketch of the rhombus and find the angles of the rhombus to the nearest degree.
13. From the stage of a theater, the angle of elevation of the first balcony is 190. The angle of elevation of the second balcony is 290. The second balcony is 6.3 meters higher than the first balcony. How high above the stage is the first balcony? Give your answer in meters, centimeters, and millimeters. Oh and make me a beautiful beautifuldrawring.
14. The figure below is a cube. Find the measure of angle TQS to the nearest hundredth of a degree.
15. You are on a safari in Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park. When you spot the gigantic mountain the park is named for. So you ask yourself, “Self, how tall is Mount Kilimanjaro?” You get out your smart phone’s protractor app and measure the angle from you eye to the top of the mountain to get 720, then drive 561meters closer and measure the angle again to get 780. How tall is the mountain? Round your answer to the nearest meter.
